Sorry, I thought I was done with the whole Reilly phone call non-event,
but here I am again…
A couple of days ago, <a
came out that Reilly had talked about the Murphy case with Bob
Davis, a neighbor of the Murphy’s, the founder of Lycos, and one of
Reilly’s major fundraisers. So the spectre of campaign money and
influence briefly reared its head … except that it doesn’t change the
fact that Reilly never asked anyone to do anything illegal or untoward
— just the opposite.
Now, the press — and the rest of us — have had our knickers in a
twist over this thing for a week, presumably because we’re interested
in what motivates and influences Tom Reilly’s actions.
- Can we please have this kind of a discussion, this kind of
scrutiny, these kinds of tough questions, when our Governor <a
plane ride from a pharmaceutical company that has <a
business before the legislature?
- Can we please ask about the motivations of a Governor and State
Senator that <a
take the side of an out-of-state competitor to several in-state
- Can we please ask what motivates our Governor to <a
change his mind about allowing local utilities to continue to puke
out greenhouse gases?
- Can we wonder aloud why our Governor <a
the advice of “the best health and human services
secretary in the nation”, and tries to write up a Potemkin village
health care “plan” without any new funding, and with no new incentives
employers to insure their workers?
You get my drift: Our democracy at every level is drowning in real
influence-peddling and outright (legal and illegal) bribery, with real
money and lives at stake … and this is what gets us
exercised? For over a week?
Can we get real, please?
