The retirement of Senate minority leader Brian Lees (R-E. Longmeadow) seems likely to lead to quite the free-for-all in that part of the state. From the Springfield Republican:
Rep. Gale D. Candaras said yesterday she will run for the state Senate this year in a contest that could involve two more state legislators.
Candaras, 57, a five-term Democrat and lawyer from Wilbraham, became the first candidate to declare for the seat being vacated this year by Senate Minority Leader Brian P. Lees….
Rep. Thomas M. Petrolati, 48, the speaker pro tempore of the Massachusetts House, said yesterday he has long aspired to joining the Senate and he is taking a hard look at seeking the seat now held by Lees….
Rep. Mary S. Rogeness of Longmeadow, the No. 2 ranking Republican in the House, said yesterday she also seriously considering running for the Senate post….
Candaras’ decision frees Springfield City Councilor Angelo J. Puppolo Jr. to run for her House seat. Puppolo said Monday he will be a candidate for the House position….
Whew! Got that?
