Pot calls kettle “black”

According to a Boston Globe article:

The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation says the Patrick administration is exaggerating the benefits of a 27 percent tax on gaming revenues at three proposed casinos. Administration official Stan McGee dismisses the group’s report as “slapdash.”

Slapdash?  Maybe, maybe not.  But consider this:

  • The Patrick administration has no idea what costs the state may incur from legalizing casinos.
  • The legislation as submitted contained a “drafting error” that would have resulted in only a fraction of the money promised for local mitigation
  • The Patrick plan relied on casino industry estimates for it’s revenue projections.  Excuse me Fox, would you watch my hen house for me?

On top of that, we have another Patrick administration official – Dan O’Connell – challenging the quality of the  MTF report.  Hmm, two Patrick adminstration officials criticizing the MTF report with similar language…..

Sounds like damage control to me.

Governor Patrick… criticizing the MTF study comes off as a shrill defense of your casino plan.  In fact, if one were to make a movie of the casino legislation, it might well be titled “When Slap met Dash”.
