Why Edwards Never Caught On

January 30, 2008 By mike-chelmsford 3 Comments

From the Time Magazine article:

http://www.time.com/time/polit…

Edwards leaves the race having made a big impact on the two remaining candidates. His populist rhetoric forced his rivals to compete for union support, and he was the first out of the gate with detailed plans for universal healthcare and education, putting pressure on the field to match him. The former trial lawyer arguably won a majority of the debates, time and again challenging his opponents to refuse money from lobbyists and speed up their plans for withdrawing combat troops from Iraq.

He was running against Yesterday’s Phenomenon, Hillary and Today’s Phenomenon, Barack. John was a great candidate but not a rock star.

What did the media want, a soap opera?  No coverage was given to Edwards or Biden, etc.

That’s exactly what the media wants.

<

p>It’s a nice little fiction we have, that the MSM is there to provide us with news and information… but it’s really there to make money. And sensation — “soap opera” — is what sells. A sober look at the reality of this country isn’t gonna be so popular.

<

p>So they focus on the former (to make money) instead of the latter. And so it goes.

Later today, we saw something that broke our hearts: Enbridge is removing trees.

We don’t know where the (very much toxic) trees are going. We don’t see any breathing protection for the workers either. Where is @MassDEP to help protect us all?

@MassMedical just adopted a new policy warning that #gas stoves cause harmful indoor air pollution that increases the incidence and severity of #asthma. Thank you @PSRenvironment, @MassSierraClub, and all doctors who worked on this.

@WalshFreedom This is such a good piece of writing by @joshtpm. It's not just clear and powerful, it also helps me when I feel like wringing my hands or cringing about the world falling apart.
