A few years ago, my mother passed away. I never knew my father hence I was left alone with no siblings at 21 years old. I felt lost, and resorted to drinking. I suffered from extreme depression and finally decided to get help. I went to the doctor and was prescibed Paxil.
If you have never been on anti-depressant medication, I suggest you never do it. It is a horrible remedy and it does more harm then good. Everyday I neither felt good no bad, I was flatlined. It came to the point that I was having bad thoughts and just felt like a zombie.
I decided to quit this pill, but things had gotten worse. Doctors regret to tell you that you withdrawl from these pills and when you quit them, your depression comes back worse.
I took a trip to France where I met a researcher. We talked about my depression and my experience with ssris and he told me about a plant he had been researching called Kratom. I looked into the plant and saw that it was very safe, no side effects, no overdoses, and an easy habit to break. It had been used for thousands of years in South East Asia by laborers to combat fatigue and most recently had been used by researchers in Europe to treat anxiety and depression. The best thing was it was natural, it wasn’t a man made chemical.
I tried the plant to my wonder it worked perfectly. It doesn’t make you high, it doesn’t make you tweeked, it doesn’t make you mental, it doesn’t make you hallucinate. It more or less made me feel normal again. I used this plant to overcome my depression and when I felt good enough I was able to cut the plant out of my life.
I follow the plant because it is a very interesting one. Many people in my circumstance had found this plant and even consulted their doctors on it. My doctor studied the pharmacology and saw no reason why I couldn’t take it. I even found out that researchers in this state were looking at this plant as a possible cure for depression, drug addiction and alcoholism.
Why is it that a plant that offers so much to society is on the verge of being banned in this state. To make matters worse, the people pushing for its ban are misleading people about it. They are saying it makes people hallucinate, and is like LSD where as the truth is so different. Kratom and Salvia are two different plants. You will never heard of someone overdosing on kratom, never see someone have bad side effects at all. So why is Mr. Vinny DeMacedo telling people otherwise. I feel he has agenda he is pushing considering he is very right wing and takes in millions of dollars from the prison and pharm industry.
I ask you all to look into this plant and not allow it to be banned in Mass. You will cause thousands of people who have found help to lose it. Even worse, why should we allow our government officials to lie about a plant to the public and not tell anyone the facts to push an agenda. Why should we criminalize a plant that can actually help people walk out of the darkness and live their lives again. Its about money plain and simple. Its about opening a door for big pharmacy to control herbs so as they can control the market.
Look at the school shootings, suicides and all of the other problems attributed with the way we treat depression with dangerous pills. Are you not sick of it and feel like we should be looking for another solution. My friends, we found it but Mr. DaMacedo wants to take this chance away to benefit his campaign coffers. He has not given his fellow legislators the facts and is misleading the whole state. He has them duped into thinking this plant is like LSD when its nowhere close, he lied to benefit his own pockets. Remember, he is the same guy who wanted to ban homosexuals their right to marry. Now he wants to expand the drug war for no reason.
It makes no sense, and I ask you to help me in defeating this bill. If you or anyone else has ever suffered from depression and took big pharm’s cure, you know why I write to you to help. Think about it, should we prohibit researchers from unlocking the benefits of this plant that will save lives. Should we spend more money on a harmless plant when we need to be combatting real problems with drugs and gangs.
Please write your leaders and tell them to vote against this bill. You will be saving people and combatting big pharmacies attack on herbal remedies. Just think, next they will go after Kava, St. Johns Wart, and other plants. In return they will give us the next generation of harmful drugs that are killing us.

the wikipedia page gives a little info on it. here is a patriot ledger story about the proposed law banning it and a few other things. i really am not informed enough to have an opinion, but i would suggest to anyone wanting to keep it legal that they get together people with medical (med. doctors, pharmacologists, pharmacists, nurses) or anthropological credentials to sign onto a letter in support of your goal. or better yet, lobby their legislators.

p>if what you say about damacedo is true (i have no idea) regarding ties to the pharma industry, i would ask whether any such companies are actively researching kratom or have a derivative in the pipeline. then there would be some conflict of interest on damacedo’s part.

p>it would be helpful if you could provide the bill number for those interested in following up. also, do you know where the bill is in the legislative process?
