I recently participated in an interview with Left Ahead regarding my campaign for State Representative in the 35th Middlesex district. You can listen to the interview here. You can also listen to the interview of one of my opponents (Pat McCabe) here as well.
On a separate note, running for State Representative has changed how I look at civic engagement.
I think the “end game” of civic engagement is to turn the meaning of “speaking truth to power” on its head. Speaking truth to power needs to be when a politician or a candidate honestly communicates how they feel on an issue to voters, not the other way around as it is defined now (in a political sense). I believe that this reversal of position and power between voter and politician is the ultimate goal of civic engagement.

Very smart. Thank you for pointing out that political power flows in two directions — back and forth between the voter and the public official –as well as candidates for a public post.
Candid communications going in both directions is indeed is the end game of civic engagement.

That’s very noble of you to link to both podcasts, Jim. I hope together, they clarify the race for some.

p>It’s long past time to replace Rep. Donato. You two offer great alternatives. It will be tough to choose between two progressives for the spot.
