Hmm…anyone notice a pattern here?

“I cannot in good faith ask, nor can I justify asking taxpayers to fork over even more of their hard earned dollars to support Governor Patrick’s misplaced priorities,” said Representative Brad Jones. “In the last year alone, the Democrats with much opposition from the Republicans, have passed the largest corporate tax increase in history, raised the cigarette tax and proposed a slew of other revenue increases. Enough is enough. We are tired of this argument being painted as if increasing the gas tax or hike the toll fees are our only solutions. That is a fallacy and one we are here to clarify.”

“I cannot justify asking taxpayers to fork over even more of their hard earned dollars to support Governor Patrick’s misplaced priorities,” said Representative Perry from the State House today. 2009 and 2010 will be difficult fiscal years for government…”

“I cannot in good faith ask, nor can I justify asking taxpayers to hand over even more of their hard earned dollars to support Governor Patrick’s misplaced priorities,” said Webster. “In the last year alone, the Democrats with much opposition from the Republicans, have passed the largest corporate tax increase in history, raised the cigarette tax, and proposed a host of other revenue increases. Enough is enough. I am tired of this argument being pushed as if increasing the gas tax or hiking the toll fees are our only solutions. Let me be clear, they are not. That is a fallacy and we are here to clarify.”

“We are tired of this argument being painted as if increasing the gas tax and raising the tolls are our only solutions,” said Rep. Karyn Polito, R-Shrewsbury, following a State House press conference. “When the only choices presented amount to asking for more money from our citizens, there is no choice at all.”
Hey I hate the gas tax too, but at least come up with something original to say. How is this not plagiarism?

Limited taxation is a very popular idea for most everyone, dems, repubs, and independents. It is really unfortunate that democrats have a bad (although undeserved)reputation for increasing taxes all the time. And it is even more unfortunate that republicans have the reputation of always wanting to lower taxes for everyone(although what they really mean is for the wealthy.) You’d be amazed at how many people believe that the republicans have the best interest of the middle class at heart, it has taken me years to convince diehard yet uniformed republican family members and friends that it is the democrats who care for the best interests of the middle class. I wish that the republicans would stop this chant of “tax reduction” because it is completely misleading and false. The only way we can ever get the real message out there is to chant the same chant for many years, and stop raising taxes for just as many years. OR… Governor Patrick and our democratic elected officials can get out there and start explaining loudly that we aren’t the party of higher taxes. I believe that this taxation issue is one of the biggest hurdles we have to fight every election season, and we probably lose a lot of independent voters because of it.
It is very irritating to see them using these duplicate holier than thou statements. Especially since it was the republican administrations that sent Massachusetts into this tailspin.

to stick it to the Democrat president and Congress.

marshalled all the Republicans into weekly messaging training program on K street where they learned how to repeat the most powerful and effective talking points over and over and over. Key words and phrases always included? Tax cuts, small government, tax burden, taxpayers hard earned dollars, excessive spending, waste and fraud. They kept count and rewarded Republican candidates and spokespersons who repeated the phrases the most and punished those who got off message.
<
p>The Republicans have been repeating the same phrases for 40 years (I remember Goldwater’s campaign.)and have pretty much captured the hearts and minds of a majority of folk who really don’t think of government as a way we all work together to do things we can’t do alone– like educate our children, or keep our water clean and our roads passable.
<
p>Meanwhile we progressive, liberal, lunch bucket, moderate Democrats fight the details among our selves when our newly elected leaders in this state and in this country talk about civic responsibility and try to get us to work together to fight for postive change.

These are not exactly verbatim and both sides use talking points all the time. They are certainly staying on message, so the question is what’s our message.

But it’s stupid. By being quoted in numerous newspapers using almost exactly the same words, these guys look like maroons who couldn’t put a couple of sentences together on their own without guidance from the front office. If Republicans in MA want to re-establish any kind of relevance, they’re going to have to do an awful lot better than regurgitating canned talking points in unison.

but clearly it is copied from a recently distributed source. In that context, it makes each of the users of the text sound insincere. “I cannot in good faith”, “enough is enough”, “I am tired of this argument”. When text like that is copied, it is really hard to feel like the sentiment is sincere instead of just some speechwriter trying to politicize an issue to build the us versus them sentiment. In essence it feels like they are treating the voters like they can be manipulated with canned text. Voters might be getting a little too cynical for that these days.

Yep….just words. Of course, we Democrats never share talking points, speeches or campaign managers.

didn’t use the same exact speech on the same day, lol! But it is interesting to see that the MA repub delegation decided to emulate the “just words” phenomenon. Now at least we know they won’t be ragging on the Barack-Deval Axelrod of Evil any longer, right? right?
