Joan Vennochi’s op-ed in today’s Globe is an accurate assessment of the Aloisi/Patrick/Walsh disaster that Governor Patrick has created for himself. Ms. Vennochi is not Jeff Jacoby from a philosophical point of view. She is, in fact, left of center from my perspective. See aptly has made the point that the Governor’s political insticts are non existent and the left wing blogoshere inappropriately has blamed the main stream media for some of the negativity relative to Deval’s remarkable and frightening lack of political skills. Perception is reality and the 2010 election cycle is soon to be upon us. Messing up so badly now is a sure sign that Deval either is not running or he is politically tone deaf. The story is at:
Joan Vennochi is right!

(Yup, yup, yup. Now, I cannot speak to how much Carol Aloisi has done for the party, or even whom Anthony Verga is, but the general point is good and correct. We are in an era of cynicism about state government, which is precisely the reason why the voters elected Governor Patrick and other progressive leaders. We've got to deliver, on the big stuff and the little stuff. - promoted by Charley on the MTA)

This is the first I read about Aliosi. Here is what I learned:
That Ms. Vennochi considers him an "insider". It sounds as if Mr. Aliosi has had experience in Massachusetts transportation issues. So this is something bad? No clear conflict of interest issues are explored.
The worst problem about Mr. Aliosi is that his sister gets paid for a job or pseudo-job at the legislature. Um, the lege is not part of the executive branch. So I am supposed to believe that it is Mr. Aliosi's (and the governor's) fault that his sister's supervisor in the lege is corrupted or asleep. The weakness of the case as presented is laughable.
Oh, and the governor took a vacation. Did he have a choice about bringing a police detail? Is he the only governor who does/has done this? How many vacations does the governor take each year? How many days and hours a week does he work? I bet that if he came to work at 10 and left at 2 we would know.
As I recently posted on boston.com, I wish Ms. Vennochi would say what she herself thinks about the job the governor is doing policy-wise. Not what the public might say, based on her own heresay and innuendo.
In the rough and tumble world of politics, did the Governor have a really horrible week? YES! The answer to that question is very different than, the "is it fair" question. MAYBE NO.
Maybe he is guilty of being a lousy "politician."
Though the final chapter has yet to be written, I don't think that this is a completely unfair of how he has done, to date.
He hasn't been that bad, IMO, with the exception of the casino thing, given the circumstances.
But, time and time again, he has proved to be completely oblivious to the symbolism and imagery of even simple things-- the retail politics. And it has cost him pretty dear.
Someone over on the RMG blog called BMG the "popular kid's blog." Fuuny!!! Who said Republicans have no sense of humor.
What the hell are you talking about?
You guys and gals are pretty smart over here on BMG. Some of us regular folk are having a hard time keeping up. Maybe you can help by going a bit slower for me.
not funny
I said it here first
The Herald is reporting that Deval is attempting to increase the salaries for two Sheriffs by $26,000 each. How can anyone still support this guy?
The story is here:

What frosts me is that while the piece was an opinion piece, Ms. Vennochi offered no reasoned opinion as to whether the bad PR was deserved on not. She offered nothing to enlighten people on either side of the political spectrum.
This suggests to me that she was trying to discredit the governor without technically doing so. If she wants to criticize the governor in a substantive manner, fine. But criticizing him for allowing negative stories to spread, and then spreading, not clarifying, the negative stories herself? Hmmm.
Because of non-informative innuendo like this, I no longer subscribe to the Globe.
