Before today I believed Joan Vennochi was one of the better minds writing opinion in Boston. Her even handedness always put others to shame.
After her column today she is now, IMO, the best in Boston. By far!
New rule people. No more saying bad things on here about Joan Vennochi. I know many of you like to do this but if you must then please refer to her as “Joan from the Globe”. (That way Google less likely to find it.)
Here’s why?
1. The column got the word of the boycott out far beyond the scope we were achieving with the gifts from our very own “Two and a-Half Men”. Howie, Ernie Jr and George Regan.
2. She described the Judge Connolly column better than I did and made the point perfectly that Howie crossed the line and that is what he has made a career doing.
3.She informed people there is a Boycott Howie Carr movement gaining traction.
4. There is a link to Bluemass Group front page on Boston.com.
5. And she constructed this column by the raising the question of anonymity. See how cute she was? Came through the back door and argued in favor of Howie. A damn good piece of writing if you ask me. Seriously
She raised legitimate questions about blogging which deserves discussion. (But not now) And she announced to the world that ‘if you have problems with Howie Carr now is the time for you, your friends and family to do something about it. What goes around comes around. Here’s a link to get started.’
Let’s keep our eyes on the ball people
Here is link to current list of sponsors with telephone and e-mail contact info and links to comments page for advertisers that have them.
This page should be e-mailed, printed, copy and pasted, copied, and other stuff you do to get it to get it out and encourage the people to let Howie’s sponsors know how they feel.
Friends and family of wise guys, union guys, Catholics, cops, firefighters, teachers, politicians, poor people, old ladies, and others should continue to unite into this growing diverse coalition of Bostonians and support this boycott.
Remember, this is not a censorship thing. This is a society thing. As in: when someone continually shows patterns of behavior which some in society believe should be publicly condemned, different free market and free thinking forces can unite or splinter to argue for or against the public yet not governmental indictment and remedy if desired.
Community standards dude. And I say Bostonians as a community do not like Howie’s standards.
The reputation castrations Howie needlessly inflicts over and over and over again are pathetic.
Howie is the guy that makes you feel sorry for Jason Angiulo because Howie has never stopped reminded us that his father called him a dope once. Big Deal!
He makes you feel sorry for the families of the small time pol who gets arrested for a one time OUI. Why, because Howie will never miss an opportunity to remind people, meaning his family and friends over and over and over and over….
He makes me feel sorry for Mayor Menino. And really, why should anyone feel sorry for Menino?
He makes me wonder how Tom Finneran keeps from losing control and just smashing him.
Since he first came on the scene so many years ago he has made me wonder on far too many occasions what his mother thinks of his career of mean nastiness covered with a school boy’s memory of historical facts.
Real cool what he would say about George Keverian’s weight over and over and over and over and over and over and…. Or the ass size of a local or state woman pol, or going through divorce papers of some poor schmuch and saying nah nah nah nah nah. over and over and over and over and over……
Let’ stay focused people.
If you are new here please read David’d great summary with links to the posts that got Howie so mad.

When JoanattheGlobe was on the political beat at the State House, Howie Carr was there, too, and she got a front row seat for his self-absorbed nonsense.
I only had one question today after reading her column in which she claims that you should use your name in order to own your opinions...and using a pseudonym is a mask of cowardice or deceit. What is the difference between BMG allowing people to state opinions under a made-up screen name and a Globe reporter printing the opinions (as facts) of someone they call "unnamed source" or "co-worker who did not want to be identified" or "unidentified co-conspirator"...if they want to give their opinions to a reporter shouldn't the reporter make them "own them"???
I think people blog with usernames for the same reasons "Unnamed sources" choose not to be named.
She cares about protecting the media status quo. She wants print media to have the shield law, but not the blogosphere. She's more willing to stick up for the jackass Howie Carr (because he's a part of the establishment) than you.
Trust me, I've had too many dealings with Joanie. There's no twelfth dimensional chess going on. She thinks she should have media powers that you shouldn't, beyond her budget, robust pay check and pension.
I'm glad her column will help in your fight against Howie Carr, but there's a long term battle being fought here that's much, much more important. The mainstream media should not be given any special shield powers that the blogosphere doesn't have. Period.
and I wouldn't exactly be jumping up and down for joy EBIII. Read it however you want, but a lead of
and a close of
isn't exactly material I'd want to be bragging about.
