According to this piece from yesterday, a “little known” Charlestown attorney says he will challenge Anthony Galluccio in next year’s Democratic primary (emphasis mine):
Sen. Anthony Galluccio, facing legal trouble from an unexplained car accident, has drawn a Democratic primary challenger in next year’s election.
Dan Hill, a 36-year-old Charlestown attorney little known in political circles, said he plans to announce his campaign either Friday or Monday.
“I’m definitely in,” he told the News Service Wednesday.
(snipped)
“I think that I can be a more effective senator,” Hill said. “This district is a very unique, diverse Senate district. It’s been represented very well in the past by Sen. [Jarrett] Barrios. I think I can do a better job, frankly, of being a leader on progressive issues than Sen. Galluccio.”Hill said he specializes in government law, with a focus on land use and real estate development. He said his policy agenda would focus on natural resources protection, renewable energy, education, and economic revitalization.
Does anybody here know Dan Hill? If Mr. Hill really is a progressive, then this sounds like a positive and constructive response to the exchanges we’ve had here regarding Mr. Galluccio’s obvious personal issues.

Thanks Tom, for seeing the story and posting this. I am indeed running for the seat and do believe I am more progressive than Senator Galluccio. I’ll be formally announcing my campaign Monday, 1 pm, outside my office at 31 Fifth Street in the Charlestown Navy Yard and invite all BMG’ers to attend.
<
p>I hope you’ll understand that I’m just beginning to formulate my platform and legislative agenda, but I intend to post regularly on BMG with my thoughts on various issues, highlighting areas where Senator Galluccio and I differ. I also want to stress that I am not running to capitalize on Sen. Galluccio’s legal troubles. I don’t believe its appropriate for candidates to challenge each other’s character, and I won’t do it in this campaign. We’re going to focus on the issues, and Senator’s Galluccio’s legislative record.
<
p>Again, thanks, and I look forward to a longer conversation later and a thoughtful, positive campaign.

I appreciate the positive tone you’re setting and look forward to getting more familiar with your approach to the many difficult challenges that face us.

That’s not much of a welcome. Good luck Dan.

I don’t count myself as one of the jaded, but for some people here if an unknown candidate comes out and says, “Vote for me – I’m a progressive.”, their first response is, “Prove it!”

My title was already long. I started with “Self-described”, and I wanted something shorter. The piece I cited was in the Herald, and was linked from a piece in the Herald.
<
p>My post was nearly immediately front-paged on arguably the most influential progressive blog in the state. I am guessing that Mr. Hill welcomed the publicity, and I am hopeful that BMG will provide a platform for him to make his progressive views known.
<
p>I meant no offense and I don’t believe that Mr. Hill took any (based on his nearly immediate, gracious, and very welcome response).
