I’m trying to get up to speed on what went wrong with the race. Can anyone point me in the right direction for good thoughtful analysis? I’m especially interested in “lessons learned.” I’m finding it difficult to sift through everything.

This article from last week’s New York Times might be a good starting place.

Every candidate needs to campaign every minute. No more do I want to hear “It’s his/her turn.” I know the old cigar smoke filled machine is dead, and the sooner this second generation “process” goes away the better. I’ve done my share of canvassing in the Commonwealth – it has been increasingly clear, most people are now voting the man/woman NOT the party. And another thing, PLEASE keep out of our business EMILY’S List. “Vagina, YES! Let’s throw gobs of money at her.” Without their money we might have had the strongest Democrat win the primary, and run a real campaign.

p>P.S. Was Coakley ever tested in a campaign before this botched affair? No. If she was she wouldn’t have gotten to where she is now.
