Howard Dean in Boston on Monday for Steve Grossman

Please join two great Democrats, Governor Howard Dean and Steve Grossman at a special event in Boston on Monday at 6 PM at the Park Plaza.  Many Democrats worked on Governor Dean’s campaign back in 2003 or worked on then Chairman Dean’s 50 State strategy.  Now he’s coming back to Boston to support Steve Grossman in his race for Treasurer.

Governor Dean has been a huge influence on Democratic politics.  From the groundbreaking campaign of 2003-2004 to his leadership in creating Democracy for America and the success of his fifty state strategy, the Governor has played an important role in encouraging grassroots politics.

I’m supporting Steve Grossman for Treasurer because of the values he brings to the position. I am confident that if Steve is elected to be our next Treasurer that he will use the power of the office to promote our priorities during these challenging economic times. Steve is a hardworking, dedicated Democrat who has spent his life working to make the world a better place.  Read Steve’s BMG interview, see the video and Steve’s follow up when he got back to BMG with a response to a question raised.  You can also check out his endorsements on his site.

UPDATE ON TIME: Sabutai posted that it’s hard to get to Boston by 6 PM.  I have just checked and the speaking program won’t be starting until 6:30pm – 6:45pm.

UPDATE: Picture removed.  I will look for another one.

  1. Few comments

Seriously as someone who first really got engaged with politics working on the Dean campaign seeing that poster fills me with sadness and regret. It would be like announcing an event with the Patriots and showing the helmet catch against the Giants. Sure there are pats in the photo but its not their finest hour. That wasn't his by an stretch. Dean was one of the smartest and most honest politicians to run for president, and frankly the silent hero behind Obama's win by making Democrats competitive in forgotten states. He is a bit to the left of where I am now, but definitely someone I still respect tremendously, this picture is not a respectful one.

Secondly though, if I was in MA and had the bread I'd attend this event. Steve Grossman is probably one of the most qualified candidates we had run for Treasurer and I am excited about his candidacy. Unlike Chris Gabrielli and Mihos and other millionaire candidates, Grossman is aiming for a much less glamorous job showing that he is committed to getting into government and learning the ropes before he takes on greater challenges. As an outsider and someone with great innovative ideas he is definitely a change candidate and not a business as usual Treasurer like Cahill was. I wish him the best of luck and so far he is the only statewide Democrat I am genuinely excited to vote for this election (though Bump might be the next one)

    • I've never gotten the bruhaha over what this picture is showing

At least on TV I don't think it came out as obnoxious as everybody made it seem.  He was just having fun and trying to keep things peppy after coming up short in a contest he had expected to win until just a few days prior.

      • Of course

But somehow someone who is excited and happy about connecting with candidates ends up becoming 'un-presidential' and 'un-electable' overnight. Suddenly John 'droopy' Kerry with his sullen face and dour sensibilities becomes presidential overnight. In hindsight any of the actual 04' candidates would probably have lost to Bush, but at least Dean would have fought back when attacked and lost on solid progressive principles as opposed to the wishy washy stuff Kerry kept selling.

  2. I gotta agree about the pic

I just wish political events were sometimes scheduled for working people, though.  I leave work (job #2) around 5:15 in Wareham.  Holding something inside 128 at 6pm basically excludes working people outside metro Boston.

Dean is still the smartest Democrat who's been around in my lifetime, and I am strongly supporting Grossman.

    • Grossman

I didn't mean to snipe at the poster of this thread, clearly if you google Dean that is probably his most recognizable photo and I understand it was meant in good fun, obviously someone advertising a Dean event would not want to intentionally make fun of him. Its just that a lot of us here first really got involved because of that man and it just brings back sad memories of what could have been.

That said I don't want to detract from Grossman who is the frankly the only Democratic candidate to get excited about on the 2010 ballot thus far (got high hopes for Bump too). And its really good that he is committing himself to learning the ins and outs of state government before he shoots for a higher office. I am also convinced that as a successful businessman and the manager of large scale organizations he will do a much better job at cutting waste, fraud, and abuse of our tax dollars than Tim 'hands in the till' Cahill.

    • Update on Time

The speaking program won't be starting until 6:30 pm - 6:45 pm.  Please do join us.

  3. Picture

Because of the comments, I removed the picture from the night of the Iowa caucuses.   It was intended to evoke the passion of that night and the excitement that so many of us felt during that campaign.

    • Didn't mean to jump on ya...

...but still raw memories for us that day.  (I was in Cedar Rapids for it)

      • Also active in the Dean campaign

I put my heart and soul into that campaign.  Let me see if I can get a better sense of how long it's going to run.  You can be in Boston by 6:30, I would think and I expect that you would be able to be there for the majority of the event.
