Meta: Ratings and Ratability

Have at it. I have no strong opinions on the subject, except one: I didn’t like the old system. I prefer the new one.

And mainly, I just didn’t want to muck up Ernie’s excellent thread any further.

    I agree with moving the argument. Not sure about a whole thread, but it was my commenting that continued it.

    I thought the previous system provided better quality feedback. Non-anonymous commenting was better because people had to stand by their rating and could be called on it. And if you received a 3 by someone like billxi, you knew you could discount it. Similarly, if PP gave you a 6, you had the agreement of a conservative Republican. Now you can get three thumbs down and not know if there’s a worthy opinion behind them.

    Knowing who approves, or disapproves, and how much, and getting a sense of different people I think built community. It was also much more accountable.

  3. What about eliminating ratings?

    I could see a case for that.
