Well, I don’t think that this will be a big surprise to anyone who follows Massachusetts politics or who read my previous post; I am endorsing Elizabeth Warren for U. S. Senate. I expect to be actively involved in the campaign as a volunteer. There are a number of good candidates in the race. (There were a few more when I made my original decision.) I join with so many others in endorsing Elizabeth’s candidacy. I made my decision to support her early on, within a few weeks of meeting her. I listened to her and especially saw how people reacted to her. I made a decision that I want Elizabeth Warren to be my voice in the U. S. Senate. And she has committed to running a strong grassroots campaign. We are fired up and ready to go. The first in a series of volunteer meetings is scheduled for Tuesday at Framingham State University. Elizabeth is so committed to the grassroots efforts that she herself will be at this meeting and at similar events across the state. She started her campaign with a “listening tour.” Now she will start her “volunteer tour.” If you agree with me and want [...]
Best commentary yet on the GOP’s reaction to events in Libya: “what the f— is wrong with you people?”
As you know, Moammar Qaddafi is dead, and Libya is now in the hands of the rebels who rose up against him, and who were aided by NATO in their struggle. No Americans were lost, and not that much money was spent. On its face, that would seem to be an enormous vindication of the policy that President Obama pursued in Libya. I mean, basically, it worked. And yet, not a single Republican seems willing to give credit where credit is so clearly due. It’s really a bit embarrassing, as Jon Stewart so aptly points out. ”Are you that small,” he asks. Sadly, the answer does seem to be “yes.” The Daily Show

It’s good to see old school politics hasn’t completely died. You can always count on Everett to keep it real. Yup Everett. A collection of the biggest pain in the ass city officials that has ever existed. Here’s why. Everett is the only city or town in the entire country with a bi-cameral legislature. Yessiree, they have a board of alderman and a city council. Add those two with the school committee members and you get a stew of egos, power mongers, and vendettas. Oh, and Everett was always a place you could do business, if you know what I mean. Anyway they have a mayor’s race going on now and every voter in the city received a five page typed report on all the shenanigans going on in the current administration. It includes names and no-bid contracts, and organized crime innuendos. A copy also went to the US Attorney. Of course the current mayor has had legal problems. You know the type. The kind of trouble you get it in when you start acting like a pervert towards females. I believe there were two court cases and each resulted in a dismissal but with an “accord and satisfaction”. Meaning [...]
True to form, Senator Scott Brown voted against the latest piece of President Obama’s jobs bill. Whether it was the mere fact that it raised $500 from the average millionaire or a firm belief the stimulus created zero jobs (there are lots of commuters in Westfield who see everyday the jobs created as downtown is torn up and rebuilt…endlessly). From a political perspective, you have to question the wisdom of voting like this. I mean, why not vote for it and not give the Democrats ammunition. You know actually be the moderate you claim to be. Alas it was not meant to be. It is especially troubling, too. I’m currently waiting for a response from Springfield officials about how many jobs the city has been forced to leave unfilled or eliminate through layoffs as a result of the crisis. While the numbers are nowhere near as bad as those in Newark, for example, and are partly due to Domenic Sarno playing political games with police overtime (demanding increases in it while laying off cadets), it reminds us of the terrible reality facing countless cities, a reality Brown has perpetuated. Back in June Brown promised to do all he could to [...]
