Thoughts on Elizabeth Warren’s Volunteer Tour – What did you think?

Meanwhile, on the other side of town Scott Brown sits in a near-empty auditorium with $10 million in sacks strewn about making fun of people unhappy about the economy in a conference call with the media director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. -Bob. Bumped. - promoted by david

People from all over the state came to hear Elzabeth Warren speak and to learn about how to get involved in her campaign. There were close to 500 people in the auditorium.

There was an excitement in the room that was palpable. This was the first of eight events that have been scheduled to date. I have been involved in a number of campaigns. When you consider the fact that this was a volunteer meeting, not a rally or a “meet and great” and there were that many people ready to help, I would have to say that in my experience this is unprecedented for a U. S. Senate race more than a year out.

Remember this was announced almost exactly five days before the event. Crowds like this are generally seen for sitting presidents.

- Springfield, Wednesday, October 26th, 7:00 PM
- Brockton, Wednesday, November 2nd, 7:00 PM
- Pittsfield, Thursday, November 3rd, 7:00 PM
- Yarmouth, Saturday, November 5th, Time TBD
- Lowell, Sunday, November 6th, Time TBD
- Worcester, Saturday, November 12th, Time TBD
- Boston, Sunday, November 13th, Time TBD

Were any BMGers there? What did you think?

In the interest of full disclosure I am a volunteer on Elizabeth Warren’s campaign.

UPDATE (by David): I am taking the liberty of inserting this photo, which was taken by Warren from the stage of the Framingham event and posted on her Facebook page.

  1. It was a great meeting, Kate!

You’re absolutely right, there was an energy in the room that you could feel! Scott Brown should be very, very nervous – if the remaining meeting draw even half of the crowd we had last night, Elizabeth will have an army of grassroots volunteers!

  2. A picture is worth a thousand thoughts

Take a look at this crowd.

  3. David,

Thanks for posting the picture. I appreciate it. Kate

  4. I'm strongly leaning her direction...

…and hope to attend the Lowell event.

    • Ditto, and ditto

I really ought to go make an announcement. I meant to do it a while back, but just got too overwhelmed in other areas…

  5. Impressive!

And please keep us posted as those TBD’s get nailed down.

  6. What was the outcome of this event?

Was it mostly a rally/meet & greet where people signed up to be contacted at a later date, or did people leave the meeting with specific assignments?

    • Specific Assignments

The event had the excitement of a rally but people were given specifics of what the campaign would like supporters to be doing:
      - Prepare to caucus for Elizabeth and recruit friends to caucus for Elizabeth
      - The campaign welcomes people no matter how they are registered to vote, but it was explained that to be eligible to caucus in February, the deadline to be a registered Democrat is December 31.
      - Volunteers were given the assignment to “find five” for Elizabeth. A form that people can use to sign themselves up and five others was distributed with instructions to get it filled out and then get another form.
      - A kit was distributed that people can use to host a house meeting so that friends and neighbors can learn about Elizabeth.
      - An overview of the campaign timeline was provided. Caucuses, Signature, Convention, Primary, General election.
People indeed left the meeting with specific assignments and action items. Christopher, I know that you know the timeline that I just described, but many of the close to 500 people who were in the room on Tuesday don’t know this the way that we do.

  7. GREAT photo

    Kind of amazing.
