Now that’s an idea that doesn’t cost anything and will cut down on unnecessary ass-kickings.
Especially riot squads and SWAT teams. Everyone has a number prominently dislplayed on the back and front of their garb. The badge number covering the riot shield, the helmet, the jacket, the shirt.
Then when we see these videos of riot squads bundling some poor bastard we’ll know exactly who is who.
That is all for today.

Merry Christmas Ernie!
I’d put it on the top of their hat too, sort of like the numbers on school buses on the roof. Might as well let the news choppers have a shot at ID too.
jimc is on to something too. Not just fantasy leagues and rookie cards — we could also retire numbers. Not just officers who fall in the line of duty, but even officers who were just damn good police. Officers who consistently showed excellent judgment, who protected both their fellow officers and the members of the community, that sort of thing.
Are there analogs to 5 yards for offsides or 15 yards for intentional roughing?
This is awesome idea.
Were I a police officer, I’d be concerned about being made into an easier target for revenge.
As well you should be.
We have moved altogether too far towards a police state where uniformed thugs do whatever they like without fear of reprisal or reprimand.
I know its a joke, but something like this does something to remind the police that they, too, are accountable for their behavior.
I’m not sure knowing the last name would make it that much easier to find someone than it already is, but someone smarter than me should consider this angle.
By that, I mean that they routinely have unlisted phone numbers, don’t allow their addresses to be published, etc. I don’t know how deep that goes; they may have to be listed on property rolls, etc., but they do try to limit their exposure.
