By that, I mean that they routinely have unlisted phone numbers, don’t allow their addresses to be published, etc. I don’t know how deep that goes; they may have to be listed on property rolls, etc., but they do try to limit their exposure.

As well you should be.

We have moved altogether too far towards a police state where uniformed thugs do whatever they like without fear of reprisal or reprimand.

I know its a joke, but something like this does something to remind the police that they, too, are accountable for their behavior.

I’d put it on the top of their hat too, sort of like the numbers on school buses on the roof. Might as well let the news choppers have a shot at ID too.

jimc is on to something too. Not just fantasy leagues and rookie cards — we could also retire numbers. Not just officers who fall in the line of duty, but even officers who were just damn good police. Officers who consistently showed excellent judgment, who protected both their fellow officers and the members of the community, that sort of thing.
