State of the Commonwealth tonight

Was anyone else taken by surprise by the fact that His Excellency delivered the annual State of the Commonwealth tonight? I got the first hint from the State House News Service feed via Facebook. Usually I get emails well in advance inviting me (and anyone else on the Governor’s political list) to come to the State House to watch it from the Great Hall. However, there is no obvious reference on the Deval Patrick site, the state party website, or the state government site. Actually, I just rechecked; if you look at the fine print in the news list on mass.gov there is one line saying he will give the speech tonight. I don’t recall regular local news mentioning it either. Here is a link to the Globe article tonight: http://www.boston.com/Boston/politicalintelligence/2012/01/governor-patrick-makes-community-colleges-focus-his-sixth-state-the-commonwealth-speech/y5mjdg8fDCl5VKepKoiw2K/index.html?p1=News_links

  1. Maybe he didn't want to be "occupied" or Mic-checked after Occupy the Primaries?

That is as good an explanation as any for being so low profile.

  2. Not a good reason.

Plus the House Chamber access itself is restricted so I don’t think he could be effectively mic-checked (a practice with which I strongly disagree BTW).

  3. I saw it mentioned on NECN a couple of times

thought about watching but know it would be nothing more than pats on the back about how great everything is and how they are going to keep working to be even better and how the great people of this state are awesome and we have great spirit and help to make this state so great and because he has been so successful he should just keep moving forward and we are so lucky to live in Massachusetts and all that stuff, you know.

  4. To liveandletlive...

…sounds like a good speech theme to me!:)
