You almost have to feel sorry for Eric Fehrnstrom. His boss wins a big victory in Illinois, which leads just about everyone to conclude that, yes, he will be the nominee…
…and then Eric wrecks everything by shooting off his big mouth on CNN. In case you missed it, Fehrnstrom was asked whether he was concerned that Romney had tacked so far right to win the primaries that he had created a general election problem. And Fehrnstrom made the incredibly unfortunate choice to compare his boss to an Etch-A-Sketch. Here’s the video:
Unbelievable, right? Fehrnstrom must be sleep-deprived or something. Anyway, Gingrich and Santorum have both pounced – both of them appeared at events today holding actual Etch-A-Sketches to demonstrate their point. And the media has gone bonkers over the story. I’d imagine that, yesterday, typing “etch a sketch” into Google News would have brought up maybe a dozen random stories. Today, that number is around 15,000, and hardly anyone remembers Illinois. The DNC, of course, has already got a web video going:
And best of all, this:
All in all, you’d have to say it was a good day. 😀

Sorry, but – “almost have to feel sorry for Eric Fehrnstrom”? Are you kidding??? Few if any political operatives in Massachusetts are less deserving of sympathy. Have you ever talked with him?
I cannot understand why he hasn’t been canned. Of course, I don’t mind, as it only accrues to our advantage. But I’m surprised there hasn’t been more local discussion of the absolutely terrible job Romney’s campaign manager and staff are doing. Again, it’s fine with me, but I do not understand how Beth Meyers has lasted this long. Do they have pictures of Mitt in a gay brothel or something?
Please don’t answer that.

Sorry, it’s Myers, of course.
