Downtown Boston could be very interesting on May First

This is the official poster from the Occupy Boston web site.  There is a full schedule posted, as well at this link.

Listed highlights include a Financial District Block Party at the corner of Franklin and Federal streets beginning at 7:00 AM.  If you have a facebook account, here is the event with all the details.   Invitees are encouraged to bring musical instrucments, and the invite includes breakfast.

There is an extensive list of events between the Financial District Block Party, and street theater in the evening.

Those who love lively street theater should go to Copley Square at 7:00 PM, for the funeral march/wake as to the “Death of Capitalism”.

Consider this either an invite – or a heads up – that tomorrow will be a lively day in Boston – and many other cities.   May Day events are planned in 100+ cities.

Despite my original plans, I will be involved only from the internet sidelines – but not having seen prior coverage at this site, I thought some folks who were planning to go into Boston for other reasons may as well be aware that this will not be a day for business as usual, more likely than not.

Well, to the carnival, anyway. I do wish they’d have billed it something other than a “General Strike.” Best to call for something like when you have the critical mass to back it up. This isn’t Les Mis. It isn’t even Lisbon. Not yet, anyway.

That said, there’s a full range of activities; the traditional marches and rallies facilitated by the Boston May Day Coalition with a whole lotta Occupy thrown in for good measure.

(AP, you will be missed. Presumably someone else will hand out the sandwiches.)

Would be great to see some politicians and candidates show (aside from Greens). They have a pretty unhappy rep with most of the this crew. Actually showing up, in the flesh, and talking to folks would really go a long way. I KNOW it would give those of us who ARE Democrats some added credibility to boot. Thing is, they wouldn’t get away with any BS. But if they were on the ground and straight-up with folks, they might win over some of the most passionate, energetic people I know.

No, I’m not holding my breath. God forbid The Herald catches a shot of a candidate standing anywhere near someone with a 99% button.

Still, you all should come out. It starts early and run late. Sure, there’s real work to be done, but it’s good for the soul to stand sometimes with the sans-culottes in the gutters chanting down Babylon.
