Suffolk/News7 Poll, You Guessed it, Even

Brown's recent votes against Massachusetts and for Wall Street may be starting to tell. Less than a year ago, before dirty tricks by a top campaign advisor and his vote to join with fundamentalist Republicans and give employers control over people's personal health care decisions, he was the most popular politician in the state. - promoted by david

Suffolk University/WHDH News7 Poll is out:

Head-to-head in our exclusive 7News/Suffolk University Poll it’s Scott Brown 48%, Elizabeth Warren 47%…with just 5% undecided.

In February, Brown was up 49 to 40; so he’s flat, and she’s growing.

Suffolk does not have the poll posted yet.

UPDATE [by David]: Suffolk now has details of the poll posted at this link.

Also, check out some great stuff in The Hill’s writeup:

“This has been like a fender-bender on the side of the road,” said Joe Malone, the former state treasurer and a major GOP player in Massachusetts. “They’re slowing down to look, but it’s not changing where they’re heading.” …

“You’re always surprised by something, but that overall ballot test number — it really did change,” said David Paleologos, the head of polling at Suffolk University. “What we can conclude is people do not believe it is a significant story.” …

“Unless he’s got something else that reinforces the seed he’s planted, that indicates a pattern, he’s going to have to move on,” said Malone. “Pretty soon the media will bail. If this is a yawner to the voters, let’s move on to something else.”

You go, Joe.

FURTHER UPDATE: Check out this very interesting discussion of the poll results on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.  Joe Scarborough, a Republican, calls Warren “maybe the best I’ve ever seen.”  Remarkable.

  1. This is an amazing result.

It’s the second post-Cherokeegate poll that shows – at this point, I’d say unequivocally – that voters *do not care* about that story, despite the media’s apparently insatiable obsession with it. Andy Hiller is probably right about this:

So what will decide what’s expected to be the most expensive, most closely watched senate race in the country?
Our poll says it won’t be wigwams or Wall Street.
With so few voters undecided, my guess is it will be the debates.

    I can’t wait for that.

    • It's just so funny

The debates will have a completely different dynamic, I’ll be watching like its the Superbowl, ready to crack up when she starts talking like an Indian. “How, My name is Elizabeth Warren…”

      • Pardon me, ma'am, but . . .

        your cute is showing.

        Happy days.

      • Who did you plagiarize this reply from, plagiarist?

Perhaps some enterprising soul should search redmassgroup to see if you did a cut and paste…

      • Racist much?

Please tell me there’s a banning policy for people who post rather racist pretend jokes, David? Can we finally be free of this content-free useless commenter?

        • I second this motion

Please tell me there’s a banning policy for people who post rather racist pretend jokes, David? Can we finally be free of this content-free useless commenter?

          When is enough enough?

        • Indeed

          *

        • No David, don’t let the bullies stiffle free speech. I know it hits too close to the Warren campaign and the Globe even wrote an article yesterday saying she is zero Cherokee, let alone, qualify as a diversity hire. This is from the Boston Globe, not Newsmax.

Guys, you really need to relax, learn to laugh, have a good time, and let things role. Writing “How” is not hate speech, sorry. I believe David works at Columbia, where free exchange of ideas is embraced, not squashed like some here want to do.

          • "I believe David works at Columbia"

            No, that’s Bob.

            • Sorry David, my bad. Ah, I see you attended Univ. of Michigan, very nice! You look like someone with a good sense of humor and loves to the exchange of ideas, so my post defending “don’t get cute” is submitted to you for consideration.

              Nice to talk with you.

          • You're freedom of speech does not constrain me.

A free exchange of ideas rests on the assumption that I have a responsibility to point out where your ideas are completely and utter quackery.

          • Do you know the meaning of free speech, Dan?

You seem to be under the impression that banning DGC from this forum would stifle his/her free speech rights – that is not the case at all. DGC is free to go spout racist nonsense on any street corner or any other venue, but BMG is under no obligation to provide him/her a forum in which to do so.

Free speech is specifically about Congress making laws restricting freedom of speech – perhaps you should take some time to actually read and understand the constitution.

            • You really think saying “how” is racist? Or has he defeated you many times in political thought, and you are tired of losing, and just want him gone, and replaced with a clone of yourself? Don’t you luv diversity of thought, or do you belong to a cult?

              • So many questions

from a dbag. Go try blubbering your bullshit in your place of work and see how the 1st amendment serves you. You’ll be reachin’ for the 2nd amendment right quick-like.

              • You are every bit as pathetic as DGC

Typical tactic of a dishonest debater – when shown to be wrong, change the subject and attack the messenger. Nice work from “centrist” Dan!

Diversity of thought is one thing – racist claptrap is quite another, and yes, that comment was racist. If you can’t see that, then you’re certainly no centrist. You’ve said before that you’ve been called a “commie liberal” on other forums – I’d like to see some links proving that assertion. If you can’t provide links, then you’re nothing but a right-wing liar, worth about a dime a dozen in today’s political world. Put up or shut up, Dan…

Best I can do, I thin American Spectator did a blog on ronmeycare where I got bombarded, but I don’t save my masterpieces. I am sure you agree the rabid rightwing would not be kind to me defending romneycare.

                  • Let me get this straight...

You claim to be that rarest of all breeds, the passionate centrist, or flaming moderate. You haunt this board, day and night, attempting with twisted logic to make liberals and liberal policies look bad. When called out as the clear right-wing reactionary you are, you claim that your “centrism” has caused right-wingers in other forums to call you a “commie liberal”. And finally, when asked to prove that you’ve actually been called a “commie liberal” on right wing forums, you direct me to a post at Forbes.com, where you defended Mitt Romney’s health care plan? And no one even replied to your comments, let alone called you a “commie liberal”?? Do you now expect me to take you seriously?

You’re a joke, a sad, pathetic joke, and I believe more firmly than ever that you’re nothing more than a right-wing liar. I agree with other posters – we need an ignore button, this board would be vastly improved if I never saw another bit of drivel from your keyboard.

                    • I don’t save the blogs or links that I will make posts just one time. Could it be a possibility that the article le is no longer available? I can’t find it, what do want me to do. I can tell you I use realclearpolitcs a lot, and was directed the the link.

Right wing liar who loves Romneycare and the fact we have 98% coverage? Going on a conservative site would embrace someone from MA supporting RC?

              • what a choice...

Don’t you luv diversity of thought, or do you belong to a cult?

If by ‘diversity of thought’ you include any raving, looney, half-baked with a side of entitlement, neuronal misfiring that is spewed carelessly without regard to facts or proof, then I think I’ll choose the ‘cult’ of reality. There is plenty of ‘diversity of thought’ in an insane asylum… doesn’t mean it’s going to get you anywhere.

Here’s the thing: if your last stand is the bald accusation that your opponents ‘ don’t believe in diversity of thought’ then your thoughts can’t stand on their own. Belief in a ‘diversity of thought’ rejects, utterly and totally, anything outside of the ideas themselves, including the idea that such an accusation has any merit whatsoever.

Somebody who believes truly and deeply in diversity of thought will recognize worthy and potent ideas all on their own: they don’t need to be coaxed into believing something, or propped into accepting someones ravings just for the sake of ‘diversity of thought’. And somebody who believes in a diversity of thought will accept that others might disagree with them, engage them and be willing to change their minds.

And those who believe in a ‘diversity of thought’ will understand that some ideas will be impotent and fey and they will dismiss them.

                Isaac Asimov said:
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’

        • I apologize for offending you

My comment was too meta and I can see that it could easily be offensive, but I was not joking about Native Americans and didn’t mean to sound like I was joking at their expense or perpetuating racist stereotypes. I know they don’t say “How” like they were portrayed in cowboys and indians movies and are offended when people say that. I apologize to Native Americans for using offensive language. I am certainly here to defend Native Americans against exploitation, such as Elizabeth Warren does when she calls herself Cherokee and tries to “civilize” them with Pierre Franey recipes served to the Duke and Duchess of Wales.

My comment was noting that the controversy probably hasn’t affected who anyone is going to vote for, but it has changed the dynamic of the race, and the debates are going to be interesting to see how she responds. I think she’s so offensive with her saying she’s proud of her Native American heritage while apparently only being proud of the Native Americans who became “civilized” and assimilated into whiteness, and ashamed of those that don’t even know how to cook a proper English meal that I fully expect her to dress in a Pocohontus outfit or something while bobbing her head around accusing everyone of attacking her.

    • How many consecutive days ...

did the Herald put out a front page story on this. You might figure that it might have at least influenced a voter or two to be undecided. But in essence the voters in the state don’t think it’s an issue, just like that idiotic “professor” Warren line he thought would help him.

Barnett and the folks at the Brown campaign must be scratching their heads, but I can give them some advice. It’s how you vote. There are a good amount of people in the state that do not agree with how Brown votes and they want someone who represents them. It’s that simple.

DSCC releases two week old poll showing race tied
    by: Rob “EaBo Clipper” Eno

    In The Wardroom

According to David Bernstein, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee just released a poll showing a 46% to 46% tie in the Senate match-up. According to Bernstein the poll was taken starting two weeks ago. This was early in the start of the Cherokee-gate story. Before we learned of Harvard Calling her a woman of color.

…the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee (DSCC) just released its own poll, taken May 8-10 of likely voters, showing the race tied, 46%-46%.

The Elizabeth Warren camp tends to think that Suffolk skews to Scott Brown — they had him ahead 49%-40% in February. You gotta figure that, if the new poll tomorrow is as bad or even worse, the DSCC would almost be forced to go public with this tie-game poll to counter the panic. Better to release it first, which looks more credible now than it would in response to someone else’s poll.

Bernstein’s take on this is EXACTLY RIGHT. They probably know that the Cherokee-gate story has hurt Warren, and they’re using a two week old poll to deflect preemptively.

    Suffolk releases tomorrow evening.

(That’s about thirty-six hours old, notice.)

Now about “exactly right”: it was really a pretty nifty ‘take’ by Comrade Bernstein, though admittedly all this would look different if Social Scientism had found Sen. Fratboy ten points ahead all of a sudden.

Paddy did not predict anything at all, but in retrospect I guess maybe I should have. The tone of the endless sermonizin’ by the Herald an’ the Three Weird Sisters [1] would have alerted a competent analyst that only whight-wing choirboys gave a hoot. The usual Kiddiemasters all obviously thought their lad Scottie was makin’ a killin’, but if that had really been the case, unenrolled voters would have coming around to the People’s Seat™warmer, which is quite a different thing from dyed-in-the-feather wingnuts havin’ a field day.

If such a shift does actually happen, it may be that professional agitproppers for reaction will hardly notice before they see it reflected in the polls, so far out of touch are they with ‘independents’

“[Foxcuckooland] is a foreign country; they [see] things differently there.”

    Happy days.

The inimitable, hopefully, Herald is still goin’ strong even as I keystroke:

This well-educated, highly paid, much-honored (she was a consumer protection adviser to President Barack Obama) member of America’s upper 1 percent went looking for people “who are like I am” among Native Americans?

And this makes perfect sense to a liberal subscriber to the central superstition of the diversity industry, which is the premise of identity politics: [p]ersonhood is distilled not to the content of character but only to race, ethnicity, gender or sexual preference.

That, however, has been fetched to us from afar. From General Lord George Will, as it happens, whose instinctive rapport with the Spirit of Massachusetts is not, in my judgment, heavily to be relied on.

Though maybe his freelordship was visitin’ the Athens of Suffolk County yesterday or the day before:

Barack Obama, who in 2008 carried Massachusetts by almost 800,000 votes, will win HERE again, and a senior official of Brown’s campaign thinks that in order to win Brown must run between 250,000 and 500,000 votes ahead of Romney. In the special election in January 2010, Brown defeated a female opponent (sic) (women are 53 percent of Massachusetts voters) by 107,317 votes. He won independents 2-1.

The turnout this November, with Obama on the ballot, probably will be larger, less white and more Democratic. But just 0.3 percent of Massachusetts residents are Native Americans, even counting Warren.

The numbers, at least, are interesting, especially if they come straight from the Fingers of Fehrnstrom. As I suppose they may well.

  3. Drilling down further into this poll

The poll only consisted of 600 likely voters although the proportion of Dems, Reps, and Independents reflect state numbers. However only 9% of those polled were from Suffolk County where the Independents lean heavily towards Democratic candidates. This is in contradistinction to the SE and Cape that tends to be more Scott Brown territory. Also 2% of those questioned had no knowledge of Scott Brown and 6% for Elizabeth Warren. This is an important 3:1 opportunity if it holds up across the state, especially in Democratic leaning independent strongholds. So we need to keep our powder dry and keep working to build grass roots support and the candidate will have to start making herself better known. This poll is not truly reflective of the entire elective. The debates will certainly be important but should not deter the actual work of campaigning. So full speed ahead if you want Elizabeth Warren to be the first female and next Senator from Massachusetts. Her credentials rightfully earned should be foremost and Scott Brown’s attempts to smear her should be highlighted as not representative of the prestige of being a Senator. Then let the chips fall where they may.

  4. George Armstrong Custer

was dead even in the polls too just before Little Big Horn.

  5. True, she is Cherokee
