Comment of the day

Everyone can be an example, though not always a positive one. Here’s our old differently-winged friend seascraper:

War on men

Impression of E.[Warren] after convention: full of herself.

Definitely full enough to make this a campaign issue and lose even more of the white male vote. Who is supposed to pay for all this “fairness” besides male employees?

Of course not, SS. Women are supposed to pay for men’s wages. ‘Twas ever thus, and ever more shall be.

  1. Picking

I thought we picked on Seascraper more than adequately in the comments. A front page picking on seems as if it might be carrying things a bit far.

    • for glory

It was one for the ages.

    • If seascraper were an anomaly

I’d agree. It doesn’t seem that he is though — there are plenty of folks (men!) who don’t want to risk their ill-gotten gains by supporting fairness. After all, fairness is far more attractive when you get the short shrift than when you get the lion’s share.

In light of that, I think this QOTD is important — it reminds those of us on the side of merit and fairness that although it’s obvious to us, it’s not so obvious to plenty of those who already have the unfair advantage.

      • These are profound differences....

and have a profound affect on a person’s quality of life.

Some selected stats from BLS Median weekly earnings of full-time wage and salary workers by occupation and gender posted by Johnk, including ones I found most surprising based on women’s experience in a field.

Median weekly earnings of full-time wage and salary workers
        Total: Men $832 Women $684
Human resources managers: Men $1,488 Women $1,273
Professional and related occupations: Men $1,211 Women $919
        Some of the most surprising:
Community and social service counselors: Men $906 Women $772
Education, training, and library occupations Men $1,109 Women $869
Physical therapists: Men $1,522 Women $1,216
Nursing, psychiatric, and home health aides: Men $502 Women $446

Let’s not get mired in the “war” war of words.
These numbers can break your heart and are a crime against half of humanity.

  2. Zero-sum is an article of faith for some people

that is, you can’t make things better for everyone, just for some at the expense of others.

If the rising tide lifts your boat, it must be at the expense of mine.

If you have freedom to marry, it must hurt mine. Somehow.

    Etc.
