Here’s hoping Bob DeLeo stays around another few years. I don’t see him being indicted. Gluttony (the god son thing) is not a federal crime
I want him to stay not because of the policies he champions but because he is honest, hard working, and dedicated to his constituents, his district, and the House. He’s not off on a power trip spending his days deciding who or what he can take advantage of for his next political/personal gain.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying this about the already anointed Speaker Brian Dempsey, his boss Ron Mariano, and especially their errand boy state rep Michael Moran from Brighton.
Right now Dempsey has the votes to be speaker. People have committed to him without being asked. Mariano, as majority leader, is making sure members are taken care of while Dempsey handles the budget. As BMgers know, Mariano is the kingmaker and has had a band of merrymen with him for years.
I wonder if the speaker knows how Sonny Corleone like Mike Moran has been acting around town. MIke is currently in leadership but will move way way up when Dempsey takes the gavel. Nothing wrong with that. But Moran is acting like legendary speaker John “The Iron Duke” Thompson.
He don’t need no Bob DeLeo and he doesn’t care who knows.
Mike’s district is Allston/Brighton. Loaded with universities, hospitals, and large institutions. These type of joints always need things on beacon hill and a good relationship with the local rep and senator never hurts.
So MIke “Sonny Corleone” Moran has demanded people be fired from places and others be hired. He pushes one guy in particular. His actions have resulted in an unlawful dismissal lawsuit against a major university which had non-disclosure terms in the settlement agreement.
Moran is the same guy who took tickets to a sporting event from a lobbyist and turned them into cash. Funny because he is also the same rep who now files all the bills for the ticket scalpers. The same group that paid Sal’s friend Dick Vitigliaro to run the legislative ball for them.
Does this tell you all you kneed to know about him?
Moran is on fire and still out there going strong. He’s been throwing rocks and causing problems for major players just to show his muscle while at the same time not being shy asking for things. Anyone heard of a beacon hill guy named Dan Cence?
Anyway this is Mariano’s and his puppet Dempsey’s main guy. He will probably be next Ways and Means Chair.
Yuk.
Now, nothing against Brian Dempsey. In fact he would be a great speaker……if this was 1965. The problem is during his state house career he got pinched for OUi. This was not before he was a rep and it was years after the memo on drunk driving went out. He wasn’t a kid. He was a mature state rep. Very bad judgement on Dempsey’s part.
Dempsey also got put in protective custody one evening after having a good ole fashion donnybrook with his brother. Hey it happens.
Dempsey’s not on the wagon (not that he should be) but do you see the problem here? The potential problems? This is the guy that Mariano is having all the lemmings vote for.
The other errand boy for the Mariano team is future whip Aaron Michlewits of the North End. Better known as the Yiddish Sal DiMasi. Before Aaron replaced Sal as rep. he worked for him for years. Aaron is an inside player and learned his craft from Sal DiMasi.
Did Aaron “loan” Sal $5,000 like other employees of his did? Who knows?
Unfortunately most of the state reps, no all of the state reps, would have been A-1 employees of the Penn State Athletic Department. You need some blind eyes, while here are 162 pairs.
So here’s hoping Bobby DeLeo waits these bastards out. Pat Haddad’s friends are trying to offer her as alternative. Good for them. Too bad all the sackless lemmings will be lining up to take the House back to the 60s.

Never have liked the diaries wherein you bounce all over the place.
I wouldn’t mind a Speaker from the Merrimack Valley, though I don’t know a whole lot about Dempsey. Isn’t Deleo at least the 3rd consecutive Speaker from Boston?
Also, why isn’t Mariano himself the heir presumptive, or at least candidate presumptive, to be the next Speaker? Seems the Majority Leader would be in contention by default.

before he got good at kingmaker. And he’s comfortable. Being speaker is hard hard work. Really.

Dan Cence…give us a hint, eb… he’s not a rep, not a senator, not a staffer (I don’t think)…I thought he was a biz partner of Jay SomebodyOrOther, political consultant, who gets the gig from Sen prez TM to provide boilerplate campaign materials for the Senate Democrats “coordinated campaign”…do they do the House side, too?

DeLeo undoubtedly knows what Moran’s up to. DeLeo put him in a top leadership position, so he must think this is hunky dory. But its inconsistent with the reform image, if not reality, that DeLeo’s trying to create in the House. DeLeo seems to have a blind spot here.
The two issues? Booze and women. Moran can knock ’em back like no one else and his pursuit women on Craig’s List for …. companionship. These aren’t state secrets, so, again, is this DeLeo’s blind spot? Moran made DeLeo took good on redistricting, so maybe DeLeo’s willing to give him a pass on the other stuff.

I’ve read speculation that Moran could be a candidate for MA-07 if Capuano leaves/runs for Senate/Gov, along with a number of others (the Bernstein piece names Rep. Dorcena-Forry, Joe Curtatone, Steve Tolman, Sen. Chang-Diaz, Councilors Pressley and Arroyo, and Capuano’s wife and sons).
Personally, I think Moran won’t leave to try to become a junior member of the House if he’s got as much juice on Beacon Hill as he may if this shakes out the way EB thinks. But since Moran was half the tag team (along with Sen. Rosenberg) of redrawing the House districts, he’s gotten to know the 7th well, so there’s a chance he might stake it out.
