The election is in 75 days, 18 hours, 28 minutes (at least at the time that I started this post).
It may seem to some like a lot of time, but the election will be here in no time at all. Don’t think of campaigning as something you do when there is nothing else going on. Think of volunteering as something that you make time for.
There is no time like the present. I have two great opportunities for all of you in Blue Mass Group Land.
1) On Thursday, come to Lawrence, canvass with the Democratic Party/Elizabeth Warren campaign, chat with Elizabeth Warren as she thanks volunteers and then check out the Democratic State Committee meeting. We’ll start canvassing at about 3:30 PM, but people can arrive any time after the start if you can’t be there for 3:30 PM. DSC meetings are open to all. On Thursday we’ll be voting on the Democratic slate of electors. Did you ever wonder who these people are who are members of the electoral college? Have you wondered how they are chosen? Attend the meeting and you will know. Join us on Thursday, August 23 at 3:30 PM. Sometime after 6 PM Elizabeth Warren will be joining us for refreshments and to thank canvassers who went out door to door. RSVP here.
2) On Sunday, come to Lowell and join a BMG canvass. Charley is taking the lead in this effort. Folks will have the opportunity to explore Lowell National Historic Park. The day is structured so that volunteers can take a boat ride on the famous canals in the AM and then canvass in the PM. It’s been many months since we’ve gotten together and years since our last canvass. It’s time. Join us on Sunday, August 25 at 12:30 PM. RSVP here.
If you are interested in some of the thinking and research behind canvassing, read Knocking on Dem Doors by Peter Ubertaccio. Bottom line, we knock on doors because talking to voters works.
It is now 75 days, 18 hours, 5 minutes until the election. Act now. You don’t want to wake up on Wednesday, November 7 saying, “I wish I had done more.”
Democratically yours,
Kate Donaghue

Good luck and I hope you are successful! I appreciate how you are willing to make the case for a different perspective and not cower to the status quo. We need more independent and strong voices leading the way in our party. Thank you!
I remember my first campaign, working on the Ed King campaign. I remember on election day in 84 holding a sign for Reagan/Bush and having a great chat with a Mondale/Ferraro supporter. A car pulled up from the Mondale campaign and gave coffee and donut to their sign holder and offered me the same. Not sure if that would happen today, seems like each party looks at each other as enemies. I saw the tone take a nasty turn when when working for Silber, Bellotti supporters called us Nazi’s and Silber ” Hitler”. Ironically, Silber loss a grandmother in a Nazi camp.
Anyway, I hope you don’t get any guff from Brown supporters and vice versa.
Mass Dems know that face-to-face community conversations help us win elections, but the #DemDoors strategy isn’t just about winning, it’s about changing the way politics is done.
When you knock on someone door to have a conversation, all of the tired attack lines, partisan bickering and bumper sticker slogans go away pretty quickly and you’re left with two voters talking about the issues we care about.
The kind of dirty politics we all hate can’t stand up to a strong grassroots, person-to-person campaign. Let’s keep knocking on those doors to elect Elizabeth, John Tierney and our other Democratic candidates – but let’s also keep in mind that #DemDoors isn’t just a strategy, it’s a new way of doing politics.
