“I don’t give them hell. I speak the truth, and, to them, it feels like hell!!”
A rousing barn-burner of a
sermonspeech, highlighting the best of Deval Patrick’s many and prodigious political skills. We need to re-elect Barack Obama, and I suspect we may see the 2016 nominee in this call to action. Too many forget that Barack Obama’s successful 2008 campaign was, in many ways, cast in the mold of Deval Patrick’s first campaign.
In this speech, we see why.
Can’t resist posting my Dad’s observations (82, Scranton)–a regulat Globe reader, but hasn’t see much of the Governor: “there can be no question that last night was one of the best 1st nights the Dems have ever experienced. all the speakers were very good but but your Governor won the prize. I have not had that much exposure to him but the man can out perform Obama. I am sure an Obama win will will put him in a highly visible position in DC. what a talent and a real bulldog.”
Felt a little bit proud reading that. Of course, I was living in Philly during the Rendell years, and I liked him as well.
There are few Democrats on this board harder on our governor than myself, and I was very impressed with his remarks last night. He put clearly why this fight is worth fighting, and why it needs to be won. This was the best set of remarks I’ve heard Deval give, and the best remarks of the night, edging Michelle Obama’s.*
*The keynote, on the other hand, was very poor. Then again, I thought (and still think) that of the 2004 keynote, so obviously I’m wrong.
All my co workers (in Chicago), including the Republicans, we’re awed by Deval an underwhelmed by Castro. Honestly this could be a good 2016 audition and the themes certainly matched what this campaign should be about. When Democrats are unafraid of our values we win. Proud to say he was my gov unlike the embarrassment of having been governed by Romney-a fate I do not wish on the other 49 states. Ive been a Deval critic and occasional Warren critic (on tactics not policy or character) but I am pumped for her speech now and proud of my state!
I heard all night about “wait ’till you hear Castro” and for me he was good, but under-delivered vs. the target hype,… at least compared to Patrick
