Debate Open Thread

And we are live-tweeting the debate. - promoted by charley-on-the-mta

For a detailed explanation of how the Romney-Ryan tax plan is able to cut taxes by $5 trillion without raising taxes on the middle class or exploding the deficit, click here.

First, a brief digression courtesy of the Herald: a group of Brown supporters is paying homeless men in Roxbury to stand with Brown signs:

A group with the startling moniker “Obama Supporters for Brown” showed up in Dudley Square yesterday … organizers acknowledged they were paying modest “per diems” to homeless people and others to wear the T-shirts in an area where civic leaders have come out strong for Elizabeth Warren.

Now, have at it with debate commentary.

  1. so Romney will cut taxes

All this does is remind people that Romney wants to cut taxes and Obama wants to raise them.

  2. Hit Romney on his record ad governor

Romney was a lousy governor, I don’t understand why the president and campaign point to Romney’s track record of failure.

Mention that Romney slashed the hell out of the state higher ed budget when you talk about college.

  3. Romney = 9c cuts

Romney is a bully. Teenagers watching chime in, “He’s (Romney) annoying me and it is hard to listen to him.”
POTUS is on target and starting to warm up with the story telling which is what he needs to do this evening at 15:00+ into his side of the debate. The story of how we got here, what we are doing that is working and where we will go forward from here.

  4. Don't know how the rest of you are hanging in on this

I cannot listen to Mitt Romney try to reinvent himself yet again, as if nothing he said over the last year and a half actually happened. Just. Cannot. Listen.

    • How does Romney play to the rest of the US?

It really doesn’t matter how you and I react to Romney? We didn’t support him a year ago. How is he playing to the public that supported other Republican candidates and to the independents.

What Romney says, “If you re-elect the President, you will get more of the same failures…”

What you and I think….”If a Republican Congress is re-elected, we will get more of the same…”

Winning the election depends upon whose message resonates? Food stamps feeds into Romney’s 47% free loadding factoid. It’s an image and a marketting campaign.

    • Obama for the win

Especially with the pension line and 47% closer, he got his mojo back. Undecides are eccentric, but they like fighters and they will break back to the President after tonight

  5. When I put a ring on Ann's finger,

she ceased her drive by shootings.

  6. I want to Bitch-slap

Mitt Romney the carpetbagger, when he calls Massachusetts, “my state.”
It is my state you chameleon cupcake, turd!
    RIP Seamus.

Senior Senator from Massachusetts is now speaking in the Spin Room. Facts on Libya. Facts on deficit…..,”Sorry Mitt the math doesn’t work.”
“You just can’t trust this guy.”
“The President could be more aggressive, given what Mitt Romney said.”
“We know this in Massachusetts, he can’t even contest this race and he is losing by 25 points.”
“The Mitt Romney campaign began to unravel tonight.” John Forbes Kerry
    Nuff, said.

  7. Boston Phoenix says Romney lied about asking for binder of women

According to David Bernstein, a bipartisan group of women did the research on coming up with qualified female candidates for government positions out of concern over the lack of women in state government. This was done “prior to the election, not even knowing yet whether it would be a Republican or Democratic administration,” Bernstein writes.

Romney did not ask for a list of qualified women; it was presented to him.

There are several other important points in the story, I encourage you to read the whole thing. In brief:

“None of the senior positions Romney cared about — budget, business development, etc. — went to women.”

“The percentage of senior-level appointed positions held by women actually declined throughout the Romney administration . . . (It then began rapidly rising when Deval Patrick took office.)”

“Third, note that in Romney’s story as he tells it, this man who had led and consulted for businesses for 25 years didn’t know any qualified women, or know where to find any qualified women. So what does that say?”

  8. "Please proceed, Governor."

And then he punched him in the mouth.

    Figuratively, alas.
