I voted in Ward 16 Precinct 2 today, just after noon and I was 16th. This is a precinct that normally has at least 300 voters. I believe scheduling the special election for the Tuesday after a Monday holiday was extremely foolish. If you live in the First Suffolk, please vote democrat today.

Give people the Tuesday off, and they take a vacation from Sat morning to Tuesday evening. Sure, they might plan on making it back in time to vote, but many times they just won’t quite make it.

…Tuesday does not follow a Monday holiday so if we kept it on a Tuesday it would not be a long weekend.
fenway49 says
people could make a four-day weekend of it by taking just one day, Monday.
In France they vote on Sundays, non-holiday weekend, so people can get there more easily. Our Tuesday tradition goes back to needing all day Monday to make it in to the county seat after Sunday church services. In today’s world it makes little sense.

I believe you mean to say “Vote Democratic.”

I see it all the time from our own folks.

I utterly hate calling it the Democrat Party, but saying Vote Democrat when there is just one candidate on the ballot just makes grammatical sense. If there were multiple candidates than you could still argue Vote Democrat for each candidacy, but I would then say Vote Democratic makes more sense to apply to the ticket.
The party is Democratic, the members are Democrats. Er go either is appropriate.

And thanks for pointing out it’s Walz’s seat, not the primary to replace Forry. The race to replace Forry is just beginning, and Dan Cullinane’s going to win that one.

unofficially took over 80% with under 9% turnout. Abysmal. Livingstone was up 2-1 in the Boston portion of the district, not sure about Cambridge.

At 8:29 ProgressMass tweeted about Jay Livingstone’s win.
At 11:07 no sign of it on boston.com.
No sign of Dorcena Forry win either.
Whither thou goest oh Globe?
You’re a ghost of Globes’ past.

That was embarrassing. Just toss something up there – would take 2 mins.
But it’s more proof that Twitter is the absolute best place for real-time news.

real time innuendo. And real time rumors. And real time totally-made-up. Also.

First, Congrats to Jay and his staff. There was nothing, “easy” about this victory. Yes, it was by a wide margin, but credit goes to the staff for building a huge team of volunteers and then canvassing to turn them out. I (Ben) was in the Back Bay with three other Progressive Mass volunteers, and we turned out almost every single one of our ID’d voters (by 6:30 I was sitting on the Comm Ave. Mall watching to see if one of my three outstanding voters would come home.
Jay worked hard, every day I went into the office, I saw him either coming in or heading out with another canvass packet, and his campaign team was first-rate.
Second, as has been already pointed out, Jay was not elected to Linda’s seat, there will be another special election shortly for that one, and Jay still has to win the general election on June 25th.
Third, minor, point of pride, it was Progressive Mass, not Progress Mass (another organization that does great work) that tweeted the results at 8:29pm.
