True story.
Once upon a time, long before the Gay Emancipation Proclamation there was a guy I knew who worked with this gay guy. Now believe mw when I tell you, this guy was gay.
Now the guy I knew had a friend and he told him about this gay guy being the gayest guy he’s ever seen.
Nay nay, said his friend. “You have to see the boyfriend of the guy who lives downstairs from me,” he bragged.
“No fuckin’ way,” was the quick response. “My guy beats anyone, anywhere, anytime”.
They agreed to disagree.
Now you all see where this going. One day the guy see’s his flamboyant co-worker come out of his friends house.
Point of story: there is gay and there is gay. Then there is Johnny Weir gay. Like the perfect golf swing, the smoothest bourbon, or the disease free prostitute, Johnny Weir gay doesn’t grow on trees.
And at a time when this country could use it most. When our Olympians can’t hold signs in Sochi that say “Fuck You Putin!” or laugh at him for being such a homo-erotic insecure thug Johnny comes in guns a blazing and says “Deal with me Commissar” .
Talk about Jesse Owens given it to the mustached painter here we have the guy who put the ho in homo making Vladimir look weak.

Nice start Steve. Come out slow and attack Martha for switching her opinion on three strikes and… and what was the other thing? Death penalty I believe.
Whatever.
Feels good, doesn’t it Steve. I mean we know you have never been in a school yard fight or really stepped up to plate for anything. Not your fault dude. You’ve never been called.
Til now.
So get your sea legs and come and bring it on more and more.
How about Martha hiring her brother-in-law as the A.G.s librarian? How about her probation job recommendations.
Turn on the hypocrite spigot at drip level and over time let it turn into a flood.

I dunno man. This President is in his second term man. I can’t believe he’s forgettin where he comes from. With all the brothers and sisters locked up for non-violent crimes, then the ones locked up on shitty evidence, then the ones that are too sick to hurt anyone, and add in a few white ones why the hell isn’t this guy pardoning people left and right?
And you too Deval. WTF. You should have hundreds of people presented for pardons and get the votes from the governor’s council. Put it to a vote and watch them squirm.
What would Pope Francis say?

BTW If you are against the death penalty you are against the death penalty. The President does not have to enforce it. WTF

Much like I’ll watch Hockey Night in Canada to see what Don Cherry’s wearing (and my sister has told me he has toned it down for the Olympics), I check out the daytime skating coverage each day to see what Johnny is wearing. He has been quoted by multiple sources (including the Globe today) as saying:
Tucci played Caesar Flickerman in both films.
I have to say I’m a bit puzzled how a country so into both figure skating and ballet can be so homophobic.
HeartlandDem says
Weir is rocking …… and the cool part is he’s just being himself – no extra push for Putin needed. Long before there was Putin-Olympics there was Johnny on the international figure skating stage.
Johnny has it going on before, during and after Sochi.
Lots of empty seats. I shudder to think how the costs will be borne on the backs of the Russian people.
Pluschenko is toast….tough break.

how about this press release:
http://www.mass.gov/ago/news-and-updates/press-releases/2011/former-state-rep-campaign-treasurer-indicted.html
Wait, we indict people for campaign issues? Didn’t another statewide elected official just have trouble with her campaign account? How come she wasn’t indicted?

I would love to see the SJC vacate EVERY Dookhan-tested conviction. Some of those guys, I’m sure, have other convictions, but I’m totally fine with everyone else walking.
kittyoneil says
Word is the convictions being overturned are already impacting certain Boston neighborhoods, with serious criminals getting off on a technicality basically. I don’t disagree. They have the right to a fair trial. Unfortunately it’s probably going to significantly impact public safety, very negatively.
JimC says
If they are serious criminals, and only have one conviction with faulty evidence … the system wasn’t working.
It’s probably too many to vacate them all at once. But it would send a strong message to the cops, prosecutors, and judges. Maybe that message has already been sent.
kittyoneil says
…and don’t necessarily disagree from a political perspective. It’s just too bad that the real victims will ultimately be the people in their communities, not the cops, DA’s, chemists, politicians, etc.
Christopher says
…but I don’t think we should just let them walk.
David says
as I understand it, they can’t be retried on the original charges, because the evidence has been Dookhan’d beyond repair. That’s why a lot of them are walking.
centralmassdad says
I hadn’t thought of this. That is not fixable, and very bad.
shillelaghlaw says
A man in Brockton already paid for Dookhan’s sins with his life.
JimC says
The reporter is making an assumption here:
We don’t know that. It’s awful that he shot someone, but I would still err on the side of overturning convictions. The larger principle of preserving the integrity of the system is more important.
There are also other causes of this unfortunate death. Let’s look at, for example, why he had a gun.

He’s an absolutely brilliant skater — absolutely and blatantly robbed by the judges of a medal 4 years ago — but sadly he has a thing for Russia and is an apologist of the regime there. It got him in some PR trouble, so he’s lightened up since then and for all I know has made some anti-Putin statement or something, but he’s the type of guy who was so blind to what was really going on in Russia that he went on national TV wearing a soviet uniform a few months back.
He’s one of those cases that demonstrates celebrities shouldn’t innately be taken as spokespeople for particular communities because they share some attributes with them.
Still love him as a skater. He was my absolute favorite. But I don’t take him seriously on anything that comes to politics or as someone who can act as a spokesperson for the LGBT community and neither should anyone else.
He was one of the most artistic skaters in a generation, but he’s crap as a spokesman/role-model.

Oh Ryan,
Rosa Parks just wanted to sit down because she was tired.
You bitching (no pun intended) about Johnny Weir carrying a gay torch is like a Bruins’ fan saying Claude Julien sucks because of his use of the fourth line.
Ya kill me Ryan. I’m gonna change the log to read “there is gay and there is gay. Then there is Johnny Weir gay. And let’s not forget that in a land of its own is Ryan gay
