Check this out from the Globe
Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev picked up an arsenal of of explosives and weapons from the family’s Cambridge apartment to arm themselves for their “murderous spree” after the FBI published photos of them on April 18, 2013, federal prosecutors allege.
Within hours, MIT Police Officer Sean Collier was shot to death in Cambridge..
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. The last thing the feds wanted was the Tsarnaev brothers taken alive. IMHO
They knew what would happen once they released the pics. IMHO
People in the FBI knew that agents had interviewed them months prior and created files with photos. IMHO.
Why did they have to release the pictures? Why so soon? Can someone point to a similar situation? The uni-bomber is not similar so a flick to the ear if that’s your answer.
IMHO I think one or both of these brothers were informants or being recruited as informants by the feds. That’s an educated guess not inside info so don’t get all Emily Rooney on me.

Well 98.5 the SportsHub should close down. Really. Sports Radio WEEI is now unstoppable. I mean have you seen their afternoon line-up? Talk about forward and creative thinking. The suits at EEI are fuckin’ geniuses.
Dale Arnold and Michael Holly with Taylor Twillman and Jackie MacMullen as “third men in” is the greatest radio team assembled since Burns and Allen. These hipsters keep us old folks in stitches and my goodness they sure relate to the kiddos.
It’s really good to see that the station got rid of all deadwood on the afternoon drive and filled it with charismatic talent. Nothing worse than boring hosts trying too hard.

No thanks.
Maybe they should try bringing back Andelman to talk about hot dogs for 4 hours instead.
This is whre EEI screwed up, not hanging on to Felger. I remember Felger filling for that human doorstop John Dennis. Callahan and Felger was good radio. How could theyhave not known they were sitting on a gold mine with those two going at each other?

Where else could Boston radio listeners learn about the WAC Conference?

Doesn’t this trial cry out for the scrutiny of cameras and radio microphones?

i.e., the feds wanted Whitey killed so they had him outed by the Globe as an informant? Or is this different? (Btw, I like the IMHO qualifiers, although I sense some slight sarcasm in your repeated use of them.) In any event, can you explain this a little more? Why exactly would the feds want the Tsarnaev brothers killed? I can see that in Whitey’s case, maybe they were afraid he’d talk about the internal FBI corruption. What is the motive behind doing away the Tsarnaev’s?
dave-from-hvad says
I think there’s a ring of plausibility to the theory, particularly because you’ve discussed a motive the feds might have had to off Whitey. So, I think that, absent corroborating evidence in the Tsarnaev case, you similarly have to discuss a possible motive. IMHO, your use of IMHO isn’t enough.

The FBI’s history of developing and using informants coupled with their ability to create a self-serving narrative out of the worst of facts added to their willingness to sacrifice individuals inside and outside the bureau for the “greater good” makes me suspect when considering the facts that the FBI interviewed both individuals. They had a file on each of them yet they were unable to identify them from the pics. Strange.
Because of the Whitey case I am very suspect of the Todashev killing in Florida.
I actually think self-proclaimed Justice Department “fixer” David Margolis could be pulling the stings in the cover-up of the FBI’s informants gone rogue.

They were on a manhunt and wanted the public’s help to call in a tip if they spotted them. Nothing to see here.

would you rather a crazed mob plus hundreds of local police dressed in riot gear and all pumped up for action looking for you or would you rather a few guys surprise you walking down the street and arrest you?
In which scenario would you feel safer.
And if you were a suicidal-take-no-prisoners-lunatic who suddenly realized their was a world wide manhunt for you do you think you may go on a killing spree on the way out.
This is simple shit IMHO. The feds were playing the odds and the hoping for these guys would be killed by the militarized idiots with badges.

…than any other time where the news reports that the police are looking for “this man” and show a picture. The admonition is specifically NOT to approach the suspect, but to call the police. I have no reason to believe this was not the intent here and I’m sure the police would not condone a mob lynching.

eb3 isn’t saying a torches-and-pitchforks mob of civilians would kill the brothers; he’s speculating that the FBI wanted the riled-up mob of cops to kill them. notice that very nearly happened.
Christopher says
…more in this case than in any other case where the same thing is done?
kirth says
Have there been other instances of manhunts where hundreds of cops from uninvolved jurisdictions rushed to a place to search fruitlessly, then assassinate a boat?
bob-gardner says
. . .first, the FBI along with the State Police have demonstrated that they can shoot and unarmed suspect seven times and get away with it. They nearly got away with hiding the names of the officers involved. Even assuming they wanted the suspects dead, would they need to resort to such an indirect and uncertain scheme?
Second, Whitey Bulger had plenty of enemies who would have killed him if they could. There were lots of factors that prevented them. Whether he was a stand up guy or not doesn’t seem to me to be a major factor. It’s not impossible that one of his inner circle might have turned on him, but I don’t think it very likely.
