So having just recently moved to North Andover, I have become rather interested in the Democratic Primary in the 6th Congressional District. Incumbent John Tierney is facing off against a number of Democrats in the September primary. I had not thought any of them to be serious contenders until I saw this Globe article detailing how one of the challengers, Seth Moulton raised over $400,000 last quarter and has a shade over $790,000 in cash on hand. I checked out his campaign website and he seems to have fairly liberal/progressive views on most issues that he lists in his “Issues” page.
I wanted to know what everyone here thought, does Tierney actually have a chance to get beat in the primary? I figure he is still the overwhelming favorite but any challenger who can raise that type of cash has to be taken seriously, no? Tierney is by far the most vulnerable Democratic Congressman in Massachusetts, can a Democrat take him down in the primary?

…but in the end I think he more than survives the primary. The general has me a little nervous, however.

No way a never run before guy energizes primary voters to oust a sitting long time Congressman who most of his Democratic constituents seem happy with.
General is a another story however.

Moulton does not have long-standing progressive views or involvement in progressive causes. He considered running as an Independent against Tierney and Tisei in the previous contest. Most of his career background would imply that he really holds centrist or even conservative views, despite what his campaign website says. His campaign is very much in the mold of “I’m a natural leader who can help fix partisan gridlock,” which I take as a sign that he’s a careerist with no real moral compass (at least certainly not a progressive one).
I think Tierney will easily hold off the challengers in the primary. He’s well ahead in polling and money, and, frankly, most Democrats like him. The general could be very tough, though, because Independents don’t love him.
I hope that Tierney will retire soon and let the seat go to a strong progressive – someone like Kim Driscoll.

The reality is, Tierney has a lot of deep connections to the district via constituent services that in the past helped him stave off challengers and win over more center-right areas of the district. Now, those areas will likely lean Tisei, though it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Driscoll keeps raising her profile, never hurts to have Glenn Beck pick a fight with you, and her response was excellent.

Before he realized how incredibly dumb that was.
He is being funded by republican sources hoping to damage Tieney for Tisei. He has zero chance if winning the primary or general and is going no where in the polls.

I came away very very impressed with the guy.

I’m not a voter in the 6th, but if I were and the match up were Moulton vs Tisei, I’d vote Moutlon no question.

whatever the hell that means. Don’t fool yourself. He’s
losing to Congressman Tierney 64-17 in the latest poll and is a shill for the pukes running on out-of-state
Wall Street cash to weaken John for the general election.
I’ll treat any true progressive to a lobster dinner if that phony fraud wins ! How do you like them apples ?

P.S. Any takers on my offer ?
