So Back-Up Gaming Commissioner Jim McHugh and his three compadres unanimously agreed yesterday not to determine a fair payment for Steve Wynn to make to the City of Boston but instead ruled Boston is not “a surrounding community”.
That solves their Boston problem I guess. Baahaaha
(They try not to disagree you know, McHugh insists upon it. How’s that for due process and independent minded commissioners?)
The law requires that cities and towns designated a “surrounding” community” be compensated by the casino.
The law also orders the Commission to identify each “surrounding community” and gives it the authority to set the compensation figure when agreements can’t be reached for whatever reasons.
So the Commission moved the goal post in Wynn’s favor yesterday. Just another set of facts and more counts in the law suits coming from all the losing interests if you ask me.
Rather than moving forward to decide a fair payment the Fantastic Four unanimously voted to remove Boston’s designation as a surrounding community. That means no money for Boston. Big deal!
What it really means is the Commission is so ready to award the license to Steve Wynn before real shit hits the fan. Coming up next I suspect we will see a vote giving the license to “Shirley Ave Steve” for a casino in the Mayberry of Massachusetts we call Everett. Determining an amount of money for Boston would have slowed down the process.
Boston was becoming a real drag on The Man.
The trick is to get the license in Wynn’s hands early enough so he’s positioned best to fight the upcoming referendum. And of course before more road bombs explode And they will.
Win or lose, big pay-outs to downtown law firms on this one.
BTW, I can’t find this story in the Globe? I’m sure it’s in there. Who are they carrying water for on this?

This thing has been a stinker since day one. To think that ANY, much less two Democrat candidates for governor are behind this slime is an embarrassment.

VOTE TO KILL THE CASINOS IN NOVEMBER!!!!!!

If the Commission decides to give the license to Wynn after it took away Boston’s surrounding community status for a Wynn casino, they’d be depriving Boston of the $300 million that Mohegan Sun committed to in its surrounding community agreement .
That would certainly result in a lot more “yes” votes on the ballot question to eliminate casinos. So come to think of it, I hope the Commission does give the license to Wynn.
