If I were in Ferguson, I would immediately take over the investigation of the shooting to ensure independence and transparency in the review.
Well Maura, as you know, in Massachusetts the district attorney has immediate jurisdiction of all sudden deaths, including killings by cops. Not the local police chiefs.
The A.G. can take over a caee but I can’t recall when that was done except for reasons of conflicts. The Boston Strangler case was taken over by an incompetent Ed Brooke who liked the notoriety and used the multi-county venues of the murders as his reason.
So if we had a Fergusron here and Maura was A.G. the first thing she would do is announce the district attorney is incompetent and only she is capable of understanding the nuances. Okay she won’t point fingers of incompetency but that is what will be inferred causing all sorts of ruffled feathers. Then see how successful the investigation is.
The aggressive ethical persona Maura portrays is dangerous for a prosecutor with political naivete.
One more thing Maura. How many times do you have to remind people you played basketball in college and then professionally in Europe. How many basketball references? How many videos of you shooting baskets?

Each said they would inject themselves into the private Market Basket matter. Apart from keeping an eye out that the employees get whatever unemployment benefits they have coming to them under the law, I feel the Attorney General’s input should be nil. Both seemed eager to trumpet that would do things, but not publicly, but definitely there would be phone calls made and arm twisting. Abuse of office much?

it is hardly unusual that a public official would offer to get involved in what is largely a labor dispute. This happens everyday in offices ranging from President to Town Selectperson. No big deal.
Very rarely in these instances do the public officials take the role of the arm-twister. More often than not, they try to be brokers.

I get that EB3’s shtick of being trapped in the 1970s is endearing to some people, but the last three paragraphs are an embarrassment.

High percentage of women basketball players are lesbians. Just like most Broadway male dancers are gay. Facts that are woven inside our culture.
So my subtle point is if Maura’s campaign believes the hook is to constantly showcase her basketball skills and resume is evidence of a dimensional candidate. Not about her being a lesbian but rather her not stepping outside the lesbian profile to relate to other people.
I Stand By My Lame Joke.
Thank you very much.

I read the same statement from Ms. Healey who may be our next AG and with respect to you for the many times you have made me laugh and think – your post was just mean-spirited.
She touched on important issues of community policing, dialog, resources and offered a perspective that a violent death is a community tragedy and must be treated as such.
The Ferguson incident did spin out of control and locals were appropriately usurped by “outside” leadership as was dictated by Incident Command System and the escalating events. She stated that if she were in Ferguson, she would take control.
Lastly, given the many diaries and posts I have read about your perspective on law enforcement, I am very surprised that you were not agreeable to this:

she wants resources to train cops not to be dicks. Isn’t that the academy’s job and watching non dick cops work everyday.
Maura is creating a problem we don’t have to any degree she suggests.
How about cutting resources for cops. Too many resources seem to be the problem.
Just tell them to not be dicks and punish them when they are. That doesn’t take money just a change in attitude.
More resources is another way of saying power grab.

were increased in this budget, but our Western Mass police academy was reduced to explaining things without handing out paper because it had no money left for copies. That was for professional development for existing cops, not for recruits.
