Marty Walsh says he’s tried to get info from Steve Wynn so they could figure out a mitigation plan for the traffic problem his casino will cause. He says they basically told him to go pound sand.
Why? Probably because the only way Wynn’s traffic plan can work is if they acquire parcels of land or air rights inside the city’s borders. That’s bad for Wynn because it would make Boston a host city by anyone’s account and that means the good folks of Charlestown would have a vote on it.
One plan Wynn has told locals is a privately built ramp running directly from 93 right to his front door. No avoiding that being part of Boston.
So the Gaming Commission told Wynn today to come back with a traffic plan for Sullivan Square. Ut Oh! That’s like telling Roger Goodell to come back and take a lie detector test.
In other casino news Acting Chairman James McHugh doesn’t have a problem with the all the shady dealings in the Wynn deal. He doesn’t really seem to have a problem with the traffic either. I mean he has questions but that’s not his big concern.
Nope, Jim doesn’t like the design of the building. Just doesn’t float his boat. He wants a new design. Does he know what he wants? No. But it could be a deal breaker.
During the formal part of the meeting, he said Wynn is capable of a much better design. After the meeting, he used much stronger language in criticizing the building and indicated a Wynn refusal to change its design could be a deal-breaker for him. Asked if the height of the hotel tower was a concern, he said: “I have a difficulty with the entire building.” He said it had a “brooding presence.”
Is Jimmy setting up his specious reason for voting against Wynn? His tastes differ from the building designers.
Is he scared? Are the FBI in Everett rumors coupled with his strong defense of Steve Crosby’s conflicts of interest plus the fact him being a former Mass Appeals Court Judge makes him a feather in someone’s cap down at the Moakley Building causing to him to look for the easiest way out?
The lawsuits will be great reading. That’s all I know.

I think it would be so much more tasteful if they made it a replica of Vaux-le-Vicomte.

The Wynn proposal is always going to be a nightmare from a traffic standpoint unless someone wants to turn Rte. 99 into a six-lane artery. I would submit that if a decision really is coming in the next, then the fact that Wynn needs to go back to the drawing board indicates Revere is getting the license.
