Attention residents of the Massachusetts 6th district. I am writing today in hopes that you will vote to re-elect Congressman John Tierney.
I am not a member of any campaign nor do I have a job in government. I am a regular person who just so happens to be part of a special interest group, the group that matters most to Congressman John Tierney…….his constituents.
This past Saturday was Founder’s Day in the Town of Saugus and I did something I have done many times in the past, I shook John Tierney’s hand. He has been attending the event for as long as I can remember (non-election years included), so I knew he would be there. This time felt different though, this time I felt like I had to tell him that he had my support, I had to show him that I appreciated what he was doing.
I have heard people criticize Congressman Tierney as being distant and hard to reach.
I couldn’t disagree more.
I’ve written Tierney’s office on multiple occasions and each time I have received a response from someone in his office. My most recent inquiry was about student loans, I didn’t think the government should be profiting of the backs of students (especially those who require financial aid). This time Congressman Tierney called me directly. I am sure it has happened to many of you with various elected officials, but I was excited, on that day he chose to talk with me about an issue he was fighting for in the House and Senator Warren was fighting for in the Senate.
Congressman Tierney has been criticized by his challengers for not being the best choice to work with Republicans in the House, that he is ineffective. I have been told that there are other candidates in this primary (and general) that will work with Republicans to get things done.
To this, I say, unbelievable.
I am voting for John Tierney because he will stand up and fight for progressive values. Forgive me if I don’t want my congressman to introduce some watered down piece of crap bill to appease the same people who stand in the way of equality and justice for all, the same people who still can’t accept humans are warming the Earth, the same people who continuously vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
My Congressman echoes my voice, my Congressman fights for progressive values.
I trust Congressman Tierney to fight for equal rights, students, reproductive rights, the working class, the environment, and everything I hold dear. I can trust him because he has been doing it for 17 years.
This is not as eloquently written as I hoped, but it is something I needed to say.
I know John Tierney is fighting for me in Washington, so today I am fighting for him.

However, someone needs to tell his campaign to dial it back with the fundraising emails. I have never seen a campaign so obnoxious and nagging in this regard.

Bob’s comments on this thread seems to indicate he thinks Moulton may be more electable at this point, Charley expressed profound skepticism of Moulton’s claims and basically backed Tierney in this recent thread.
At this point, I have two guiding principles:
The first, is that Moulton has not indicated or even made an effort to indicate, how he will reach out to grassroots progressives including labor and those of us here, to govern and to govern well. A lot of generalities and banalities-but no visible efforts to reach out to those groups. So I am backing Tierney since I know his record, though I won’t pretend he is the more electable Democrat at this point. I think he is the only known progressive in the race, which is why he earns our support.
The second though, is that even a centrist sounding Moulton who may have naivete and inexperience about partisan Republican obstructionists is preferable to Richard Tisei taking the reins with his vocal support of the far right budgets of Paul Ryan, voting to continue the far right and ineffectual leadership of Speaker Boehner, and likely voting against the working people of the district as Scott Brown did. So he has my full support if he beats Tierney, which is looking more and more likely according to Bernstein, the Cook report, and NY Times.

If there has been any doubt inspite of my posts and comments, let’s be clear – I personally and professionally support John Tierney. That said:
What wins the race tomorrow in the 6th CD is GOTV, good ole grassroots. IMO Tierney has that operation, Moulton does not.
Moulton has run a nasty and unwarranted attack campaign against Congressman Tierney. As the Tierney TV ad clearly showed, Moulton has taken big $$ from the GOP side of the political spectrum. I doubt he will suddenly become a progressive Congressman.
John Tierney has been in the trenches on progressive and worker issues his entire career in Congress. I’ll be door knocking for him all day tomorrow.

and our next Lt.Governor Mike Lake.
I did a joint highway VIS(my favorite)for both of them from 7 to 9 this morning on the Rt.95(128)overpass in my hometown of Wakefield and the Roosevelt Circle overpass in Medford on Rt. 93. The traffic was a bumper to bumper parking lot and I got 250,000 hits per hour.
This afternoon I’m doing a lit drop at my local senior housing complex for both of my heroes !
Onward to victory for two great progressive champions !
Strength and Honor,
