Esteemed readers of this blog will recognize the indicators: fake concern, taunting, outrageous unsubstantiated claims, imperviousness to reason, agita, vindictiveness, and personal attention as the primary objective. It bears consideration, and augers hopefully for a Third Party Trump. Let’s not forget that another egomaniacal gazillionaire Ross Perot in effect elected Bill Clinton. My answer has been emphatically YES for some time! Plus, can we PLEASE dispense with the feel-good GOP talking point that Ross Perot elected Bill Clinton?! Polls during the period when Perot was out of the race showed Clinton beating Bush just fine on his own and exit polls indicated that Perot voters were evenly split on their second choice.
Bob Neer says
The reality of the vote was that Clinton won with 43.0%, Bush got 37.5% and Perot 18.9%. Bush lost millions more of those Perot votes than Clinton did. In my opinion, the incumbent Bush running after a successful war would have beaten Clinton without Perot.

…didn’t continue up until election day and the methods weren’t as solid then in their methodology. There is no basis for your assertion that millions more Perot votes were lost from Bush, but there IS exit poll evidence of what I said. Bush’s own approval ratings on their own were way down from the wartime high based on the economy. Rachel Maddow just recently went over this again, complete with all the relevant charts and stats, and those who know polling tend to agree on this one. Only Republicans who want to delegitimize Clinton’s presidency still believe what you are suggesting. With polling part of both my undergrad and grad studies I’m very confident on this particular subject and in the polls themselves.
