The people demanding the Green Line extend further into Somerville and Medford are for the most part yuppies and selfish millennials (that’s redundant) who came from some shitty podunk town or suburb and now think they’re keeping it real like fucking Jack Kerouac.
Then sometime between the age of 25 and 35 most of them grow up and move out making room for the next young dink.
What’s great about the area is its handiness to Boston. You walk ten feet in any direction along the proposed route and you hit a bus top where people gather and get driven to the close by Red Line stations at Harvard, Davis, Alewife, or Porter; or the Orange Line’s Wellington Station. Oh, there is also a shitload of buses from Somerville to Sullivan Square. Most residents have more than one option to get to Boston.
These routes run all the time. And with no traffic you’re at the T station in 10 minutes. You are then three stops away from downtown on train.
BUT THEY WANT MORE!!!!
This project was a joke when conceived. It was an afterthought added to placate the environmentalists. I have no problem with that but this got the go ahead because Somerville is where environmental advocates live. They sold-out the environment to save ten minutes on their commute during the five years they live there.
How about an Orange Line cut-off to Chelsea/Revere/Everett.? Make it easier for the low wage immigrant office cleaners, restaurant workers and security guards opening and closing the city everyday so everyone else can have a place to go.
