So Charley Baker lines up the Mass Convention Authority gig for a long time Republican ‘good guy’ who hasn’t a clue how to run a governmental authority. Reminds me of the Weld/Cellucci days when the administration was made up of Weld’s dorky wealthy contributors and Celooch’s street smart but shady gambling buddies.
Not sure about the latter for Baker but this move is a joke. Check out the picture of this guy. He’s on his knees tidying up the carpet in the Taj Hotel. Why? Because that’s what he’s done all his life.
This is a freakin embarrassment for the state. The guy will get his ass handed to him in almost everything he will have to do as the boss. Oh sure there will always be soap in the bathrooms and we will probably be seeing some fresh cut flowers at the Hynes but he’s also good at not dealing with riff raff. “Excuse me, are you staying here?”
He’ll be great convincing all those middle class people to come to Boston for their convention and spend money.
Does Bakes purposely not give a crap about convention and tourism in this state? Not only is his guy in over his head on the experience front he’s lacking education credentials.
I bet he’ll keep the nice Hispanic cleaning lady on her toes. He’s good at that.

So the NY Appeals Court shut down Draft Kings and Fan Duel today for obvious reasons. It’s gambling.
But here in MA you just need to pay ALL the right people and you can get what you want.
Like Wynn did. I don’t blame him.
The Gaming Commission used Roger Goodell/NFL self-serving logic at each step to make sure he got what he wanted. Judge Sanders said the case has been made by Mohegan Sun to let it continue. She agreed with Somerville and Boston on that issue also. She just said it was none of their business.
And let’s look whom Fan Dues/Draft Kings has signed. Hmm, we know the local media is getting nice sizable checks from them and they seem all in agreement that it’s legal. Funny, isn’t it?
Former attorney general and former boss of the current A.G. Martha Coakley went before her buddies at the Gaming Commission yesterday to tell them this ain’t gambling.
Maura Healy’s all in btw.
So isn’t our governor. He says that unlike horse racing or black jack or betting on golf or football fantasy football is a skill. That’s what an Ivy League education will get you I guess. The rest of us aren’t smart enough to see the difference.
Hey, didn’t Martha appoint one the gaming commissioners?
Now the complaint is not with the people being paid by these special interests. My complaint is how easy it is to make too many of our public officials roll over for serious shit. Not a bridge naming or an easement but the obvious high stakes highly controversial stuff. WTF?
Is this a symptom of the escalating haves v. have nots? The super rich guy (and they are everywhere now) can buy everything he needs in a place like MA while the regular locals can’t afford or don’t have the right friends to get a seat at the dinner table. Do I dare say fascism?
SomervilleTom says
Maybe.
Looks to me like “business as usual”.
Or, to quote some of our own BMG participants, “Just politics”.
Just one question: Weren’t you, EB3, one of the voices claiming that the Probation Department scandal was “just patronage”? I seriously don’t remember, no offense if not.
Just wondering.
