Sometimes basic navigation on this site doesn’t work in Firefox.
I click on a diary and it doesn’t load, or I click on a comment and it sends me to the wrong place, or nowhere. I have to reload the main page to make things work again.
This is true both on my home Mac and my — um — other machine, which is a PC.
Am I an outlier here? If so, how do I become an inlier?

I haven’t had any issues with it, or safari if you have a Mac. Firefox isn’t the best browser anymore and this isn’t the only site that gives it trouble.

Google makes Chrome. F Chrome.

I have Chrome on my computer, but that doesn’t prevent me from using Firefox or IE, which I also have (though rarely use, especially the latter).

I try to diversify my tech providers. I use Google enough without it running my browser too.
Incidentally, it was BMG that convinced me to switch to Firefox.

Maybe it has to do with ads vs. no ads? I’m seeing zero problems with FF.

There appears to be a pop-up issue when going into the posts. Next time you do it, you may notice a very small “close” button somewhere on the page. If you click that, it fixes the issue. Otherwise, you need to reload.
I am using Chrome on a mac.

I run both chrome and firefox on my Windows 7 pro machine.
I see essentially continuous issues with both, that seem related to keyboard focus. I get that the site needs advertising. Still, I see issues that seem related to the large number of ads.
The most common issue I’ve seen is that, after loading a page, I’m unable to get ANY of the javascript functions to work. That means that although I can see the page and its buttons, when I click a “Recommend”, try to uprate, downrate, or “View voters”, etc., unpredictable behavior ensues.
In both chrome and firefox, I can generally get the page usable again by refreshing the page. Sadly, this clears the “new” counts, so its harder to find new comments in a lengthy thread.
Secondly, when I’ve managed to get a comment window open and I’m typing, the keyboard focus is pulled away to somewhere else. I think the keystrokes just drop on the floor, but it still interrupts the flow of what I’m doing. I therefore often have to get my right hand off of “home”position on the keyboard, grab the mouse, and click again.
BTW, often the focus seems to go to different browser window (I usually keep several open).
Although the specific symptoms are different between firefox and chrome, the underlying problem seems to be the same.
Finally, I often see “Waiting for pierrysoftware…” in the status bar of whatever browser I use.

There are currently (8-Apr-2016 12:45p ET) two diaries posted by mike_cote whose title is “Keystone XL Pipeline springs a leak in Nebraska: I’m shocked, shocked, and stunned I tell you…” that each link to the front page rather than to an individual diary.
I’m not sure how those got onto the front page in their current state. I think they’ve been there since yesterday. It’s hard to tell, because the timestamp showing on the item seems to be updated to the current time on each refresh.

The WordPress software occasionally posts phantom diaries that can’t be edited, promoted or removed. To JimC’s point, The pop ups appear to be causing buggy performance. I use Chrome and find that it occasionally requires a refresh before I can post a comment. We’ll try to address these annoying issues.

For the relatively solvent among us, I did notice that my “golden moon” had disappeared a few weeks ago, and remembered that a good number of months had elapsed since the last BMG subscription drive. And keep in mind that if you can afford the $40 subscription, that will help fund improvements to the site for everyone.
SomervilleTom says
I just re-upped my subscription as well.
In that vein, just a word to any editors that might be paying attention to this thread — perhaps it might be good to make a “Subscribe” link present (or more visible) on the front page and perhaps on every page. I eventually found it, but I had to dig fairly deep.

Thank you.

then it works fine. I use Chrome.

I include it in the “unpredictable behavior” I mention.
It seems like I have to refresh chrome before making any comment, but it might not be quite that bad. It seems as though it’s worse when I have other browser windows open with “busy” stuff happening in them — popups, animations, etc.

Often will open, get the small close box (didn’t realize I should click on it). If I try to comment or rate, it kicks back up to the top of the page. Thanks for mentioning this — I was wondering if I was the only one.
And agreed — Google hoovers up enough of my info without giving them my browser too.
