I am still largely taking Judy’s wise advice, but this bears noting.
As The Hill points out, Clinton held a string of press conferences on the campaign trail before December, but those appearances gradually tapered off. One Clinton ally who elected to remain anonymous told The Hill that, were Clinton to hold a press conferences, the media wouldn’t treat her fairly: “There’s no benefit,” the ally said. “It will only hurt her.” This is a common — and valid — thread among Clinton supporters.
Yes, it is a common thread, but it is not a valid one.
This is part of what I was talking about last week. Some people hold HRC to different standards.
Candidates and officeholders are supposed to be accessible to the press. We could argue for hours, but the basic principle is, the press stands in for the (almost entirely excluded) public.
Sure, it gets old, but meanwhile the GOP nominee is on TV constantly. HRC’s (still kicking) primary opponent is closing the gap in our largest state.
This doesn’t even begin to get into the notion of “The media wouldn’t treat her fairly,” a dubious assertion at best.
It’s called PUBLIC service for a reason.
Christopher says
A press conference is one way, but it’s not like she has been hiding.
JimC says
in plain sight. She gives speeches in environments she controls, and she holds rallies.
I think she has an obligation to face the political press.
Christopher says
…both on her own and facilitated by media outlets, in which she takes questions from the public including those inclined to another candidate. They ask the questions voters are more likely to really want answered. The press often have their own agenda and I completely understand going around them.
johntmay says
…who has finally found her message, as I watched her speak today, and it’s “I’m NOT as bad as the other guy!”.
Yeah, that’s a real good slogan…..gonna bring crowds to hear that stump speech.
centralmassdad says
To find you upset about a lack of press conferences given that the press is evil and corrupt and has been deceitfully Reporting that she is winning.

I found someone who was convinced Berwick was going to WIN!!!! to be a not so good source for figuring out whether Clinton is a good candidate or a bad one.
jconway says
I’ve often felt if her handlers just let Hillary be Hillary she’d be doing a whole lot better. It bothers me they are going to replay the Jeb! playbook against Trump. Today’s speech was quite good, even if the leftier crowd will claim she went full neocon. It laid out in stark terms how a half century worth of bipartisan foreign policy consensus would go out the window.
I like the safety net, the UN and NATO, so does Hillary. None of her opponents can credibly say the same thing, which should be incredibly disturbing.

Most Americans have forgotten about them. Others want to see us out.
sabutai says
We’ve forgotten about NATO the way we’ve forgotten about electricity. It’s so useful that we don’t even realize we need it.
Trump is advocating the destruction of the greatest containment to a hostile Russia at the moment that Russia is growing increasingly hostile. Then again, given his affection for Putin, perhaps that isn’t a surprise.
jconway says
We are living in an odd world where the Republican nominee is more dovish on the Soviets and the last real communist dictatorship in North Korea.
Christopher says
His heart didn’t seem in it and never swung hard at Trump. Hillary OTOH has done plenty of that.

Folks crying that FOX hasn’t had a chance to yell “Did you kill Vince Foster?!?” at her during a press conference? Too f’ing bad.

Vox, I believe, published a study of press coverage. The press coverage Mrs. Clinton has received has been more negative (!) than that received by Mr. Trump.
The Clinton campaign has strategize well in this hostile media environment. After all, Trump raises ratings.
JimC says
I’m not going to read this study, but a LOT of the coverage Trump gets is really pretty negative. Sure, they gloss over things he lies about, but ever since he started winning, he’s been treated like an anomaly.
Clinton by contrast gets hit with some of the same stuff over and over, but her message (“I’m the most qualified candidate ever”) is always treated as gospel.
Christopher says
…and yet they STILL are more likely to break into coverage for a Trump rally than a Clinton rally.
Mark L. Bail says
was started by you as well.
You’re not following Judy’s advice, you’re throwing gasoline on the embers of the primary. If you were truly following Judy’s advice, you’d try questioning the necessity of the mainstream media in the 21st century, instead of questioning Hillary’s handling of them.
I’m not getting involved in this thread because I already know what everyone is going to say. It’s time to move on.
JimC says
People who would be President have an obligation to be accessible to our media. Period amen.
I will call out any candidate who fails to do this, in either party.
JimC says
Unless I missed one?
jconway says
And respond to DNC, the Russian stuff, and hit Trump with every answer. This really isn’t hard.
