I am writing today to support Jen Migliore in the 9th Essex house district primary and general election. I am not associated with Ms. Migliore’s campaign, nor have I been approached to write this note. I hope I can do her some justice with a view from Saugus.
Jen Migliore is a young and passionate fighter. She brings a level of energy to the campaign that I haven’t seen before and from what I can tell, she brings this energy to everything she does.
Jen did something that is rarely done in my quiet, dead end street neighborhood; she knocked on my door. On top of that, she responded within hours (probably minutes) to two e-mails I have sent over the past couple of weeks. I should note that the Republican incumbent has repeatedly failed to answer/respond to notes I have sent his office.
Raised in Saugus by her mother (Jill) a certified Nursing Assistant and her father (Joseph) a two decade active member of the Plumber’s Union Local 12 (he also teaches at vocational high school), Jen learned what hard work and determination can accomplish. She also learned that working class families deserve paid family and medical leave. Jen’s support of the Millionaires’ Tax (JenforRep) shows an understanding of paying your fair share.
Just in case it was in question; Jen is a friend and supporter of unions, check out the list of endorsements: http://www.jenforrep.com/endorsements
In addition to strong working class values, being awesome at softball, graduating with honors from Wellesley (American Studies with Educational Policy focus and Spansh), and mentoring at Girls Inc., Jen worked as the District Representative for Seth Moulton.
As a District Representative, Jen worked closely with residents of the North Shore to solve their everyday (and maybe not so everyday) issues. From interactions with the IRS and Department of Labor to Veteran’s issues; Jen has helped successfully close over 700 constituent cases and returned over $300,000 back into pockets (theBlueLab)
Jen is the only candidate in this race to take a strong stand against a proposed Wheelabrator landfill expansion (JenForRep)Though the landfill sits outside the 9th Essex, Jen understands environmental issues go beyond House drawn boarders. She would have co-sponsored Rep. RoseLee Vincent’s (D-Revere, district contains parts of Saugus) bill to prevent the expansion (JenForRep) ; something the Republican incumbent failed to do. This district deserves a Representative who will put health, safety, and environment at the forefront.
Jen believes in “equal treatment of all people regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age and national origin….Jen will fight hard for a fair minimum wage, equal pay and anti-discrimination protections in the 9th Essex District and beyond” (JenForRep). Jen’s fight for equality extends right into education; she is strongly opposed to lifting the charter school cap and she is for increased funding for ALL of our public schools (An Education) . Helping all students instead of a select few is the key.
Jen seems to have caused some fear and commotion on the other side of the aisle. Vocal supporters of the Republican incumbent are displaying yard signs in support of Jen’s primary election opponent. Just yesterday I passed a house with the primary opponent’s sign in the front yard and the Republican incumbent’s name displayed though bumper stickers in the driveway. It’s an odd thing to see, but it must mean Jen is doing something right.
I am excited to vote for Jen Migliore in the primary and again in the general election. Jen talks about “running through brick walls for the Essex 9th” (I think in reference to something from playing softball), but she can’t do it alone. If we all stand side by side and charge forward together…the whole wall will come tumbling down.
