I think a lot of Americans don’t know how international relations or nuclear strategy work, especially the one ostensibly in charge of it. North Korea is attaining nuclear weapons capable of targeting the US as an insurance policy against regime change. Something Saddam Hussein and Qaddafi gave up via diplomacy only to be toppled by American led military campaigns. Kim may be evil, but he isn’t suicidal. It is for this reason that these weapons will never be used against the US or it’s allies.
Our current strategy is to squeeze the regime with sanctions and get Japan and South Korea to become better allies with one another and agree to substantial defense spending increases and independent defense and deterrence capabilities of their own. Deploying advanced missile shields like THAAD further enhances this capability. Both of these actions put tremendous pressure on China to cut the chord to its client state. Which it just did at the UN last week.
So all of this is good news and means war is less likely, and all of that was undermined by an American President who doesn’t grasp anything I just described. Mike Pence is a Gilead fetishizing has been governor of the only slave state too incompetent to secede from the union, but he understands this situation and should be entrusted by the cabinet to oversee it following their constitutional duty under the 25th Amendment.
