Calling all LGBTQ+ Dems and Allies- get involved in Bay State Stonewall Democrats! (Video)

January 24, 2019 By Alexandra Chandler 2 Comments

Good evening progressive Massachusetts! Per subject, I urge you to consider getting involved with the Bay State Stonewall Democrats (full disclosure, I was just honored to be elected to our board last night along with a whole slate of great new directors). A few reasons why you should:

  • You can be a part of our effort to *finally* pass a ban on conversion therapy this year, it is both nonsensical and dangerous to LGBTQ+ youth in particular that this cruel practice is still legal in Massachusetts
  • You can help us elect pro-equality local officials in elections this year, who can make a real difference in ensuring LGBTQ people are welcomed in every corner of the Commonwealth, as well as helping to build a stronger party and candidate pipeline, which will mean better up-ballot candidates in years to come
  • This is a great way for politically minded straight allies from other communities to stand with the LGBTQ community against political attacks both here in Mass (such as when we had to vote Yes on 3 to keep our transgender anti-discrimination protections) and in general– from the trans military ban to other attempts at erasure at the federal level.
  • You getting involved will help the cause of progressive policy and political change in general. As we push for progressive policies at every level, we need to keep showing up for one another’s communities to ensure no one is left behind and there is no success in attempting to divide or demoralize segments of our coalition— instead, we ensure the whole coalition is activated. And that, in turn, helps us get everything on our agenda done, from living wage jobs to combating climate change. I made this theme of showing up for one other a theme in a speech at the Women’s March in Boston last weekend, and I assure you that is part and parcel of what Bay State Stonewall wants to advance as an organization.

Finally, it’s the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots this year! What better time to become part of this organization?
