I propose the following simple rule that Democrats should articulate now and repeatedly:
Anything you do to grab power, we will do to restore democracy.
Of course that’s untrue, there is plenty of of stuff they are doing that would be useless in the project of reconstructing the rule of law. You can’t restore democracy with racist tweets.
But: You break norms, we’ll break norms. You invoke emergency powers, we’ll do the same as needed.
Let’s lay it out now and say, Your move.
Please share widely!

Surely its past time to begin impeachment hearings.
It looks to me as though the Trumpists are locked and loaded. A new AG is in place. While we Democrats have been negotiating about this absurd manufactured “crisis”, we’ve done nothing about the real emergency — the fact that our executive branch and Senate is doing the will of Russia (and Saudi Arabia, and who knows who else).
Pull the trigger. Now.

I would rather Democrats get rid of the filibuster & pass legislation than use clever executive action. In 2010, Dems let the climate bill get filibustered & told themselves it wasn’t so bad because Obama could take executive action through the Clean Air Act … then we lost in 2016 and Trump immediately got rid of that. Legislation is much harder to undo (see: Obamacare).

I was not referring only to presidential emergency powers, actually.
