Call me crazy but as I watched the debate unfold tonight a powerful thought overtook me.
The strategic political problem is to figure out a way to unite the diverse ideological, generational, gender, ethnic and geographical strands of the Democratic Coalition to defeat Trumpists up and down the ballot nationwide.
How about a Biden/Harris ticket? Biden wins the industrial mid-western states that Trump flipped from Obama and Harris helps to nail down the Rocky Mountain and Western states. They would both have strong AA appeal in the South.
As an added bonus, we wouldn’t lose a Senate seat if Harris were to win because California has a Democratic Governor. We have to flip three seats to win majority in the Senate if we win back the White House.

I’m thinking about Lincoln’s Team of Rivals strategy of uniting the party by bringing his opponents into the cabinet. Seward (NY) at State, Chase (OH) at Treasury and so on.
doubleman says
Ha. Maybe if he also chose Warren for Treasury and Bernie for Commerce.
What last night showed me is that when forced to campaign and defend his record, it’s not a good time for Biden. Since he announced he has had far more bad days than good days and I suspect the polls will begin to show that. He can only go down from here. And I think that will be a very good thing.
At the very least we should want a president with a vision for the future not one trying to take us back to a time that never existed.

Biden is a gaffe-prone candidate and if he can’t defend his record he deserves to lose.

I witnessed busing up close and believe me when I tell you that it was ugly. I was a courier for Chanel 5 TV news rushing film from South Boston to our Needham station. I was spit on and had my life threatened. It was an experience I will never forget.

After the debate I’m not sure Harris would want to be on a Biden ticket. I picture her as AG, however, for whomever is the nominee if it’s not she.

Frank Bruni proposed a Harris/Buttigieg ticket . I don’t see that either, but it’s worth recognizing we have a talented field that is fired up and ready to take on this corrupt racist dirtbag of a President.

Ummm…typo. I believe that the suggestion should be Harris/Biden

I was skimming old BMG posts as I do from time to time and just wanted to point out that Fred called it in this diary from last June!
