Markey is the lead Senator on the Green New Deal, which is AOC’s signature issue and a holy grail for progressives, so why would purists freak out on this one?
fredrichlaricciasays
Some purists want us to believe that Joe Kennedy is more progressive than Ed Markey. Well guess what? He’s not.
bob-gardnersays
That covers the purists, Fred. The people who want us to believe that Joe Biden is as progressive as Ed Markey–would those be the pukes?
Christophersays
Fred has consistently used the term “pukes” to refer to Republicans.
I guess I’m not really sure what “purist” means at this point, but what Fred has written in his reply (“Some purists want us to believe…) doesn’t sound to me like anything I would recognize as “purism”.

You’re making up this purist thing. Very few strong progressive and leftist folks prefer Kennedy to Markey. It’s a myth. Nice use of a fake pejorative again, though.

The Globe is reporting similar data about progressives, though of course that’s only as reliable as the Globe. Specifically, the Globe reporting claims that young progressives are supporting JKIII over Mr. Markey.

Aside from an enduring style featuring maddenly lengthy, clubby, introductions, this kind of unsourced gossip is the kind of thing that makes the Globe a tough companion to love.

It’s why I canceled my subscription years ago, tried it again recently, and canceled it again recently.
Pretty much any legitimate story that appears in the Globe can be found elsewhere without a paywall. I subscribe to the NYTimes and Washington Post, and breaking news is always available on one of those outlets before it hits the Globe.
For breaking local stories, Mass.live often gets there about the same time as the Globe and tends to be more reliable.

The Globe also had an article brought to my attention via FB that claimed this weekend’s Democratic State Convention was infused with Markey-Kennedy drama. There was nothing of the sort. Kennedy didn’t even speak, though Markey’s two announced challengers did. They refrained from attacking Markey directly and while the reception they got was polite, the reception Markey got was enthusiastic.
jconwaysays
If anything the purists should favor Markey while the more electable (re:telegenic) moderate is Kennedy.

Some purists want us to believe that Joe Kennedy is more progressive
Who?
Trickle upsays
This sure reads like a freak-out to me.

To Joe Kennedy : “The most precious commodity in politics is attention. And now, instead of focusing on climate change, on Trump, on immigration, we’re going to have to waste our time beating back your ego-driven primary challenge to the man who wrote the Green New Deal with AOC. Not what we need.” Bill McKibben
