    And a Democrat to boot.

    - my local rep – was MIA on this one. She voted for every amendment that stripped taxes and then against the entire plan. She said it was not a choice between the Governor’s plan and the Leadership plan – it was her own.

I called her office and sent emails – no response.

  3. Less fun is having this guy be your most experienced state rep (0 Replies)

For North Andover, he is now our most experienced state rep. And DeLeo won’t move any of his bill. So even when a simple bill for the town (a home rule petition) comes up that he co-sponsors, someone has to go to DeLeo and get it pushed through.

  4. Absolutely Ed Markey and absolutely no primary (0 Replies)

BC (Before Coakley) we all thought that 6 Dems competing for the nomintion was fine, because whoever won would win the general. Now we are facing a candidate with a fully developed national following and lots of cross-over appeal. Spending weeks/months arguing over single-payer/public option or combing through every bill Ed Markey voted for is useless.

Markey is the dean of the delegation. He’s delivered year after year, he’s well-respected and he is our best chance for a no drama special election. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s a a white Irish Catholic man who represents a lunchpail district.

should take the advice of his duckhunting buddy Dick Cheney and “f#ck himself.”

His bill would actually strike requirements for all coverage of mental health issues.

senator Brown, do you support the Republican National Committee platform’s position on labor rights, which calls for “enactment of a National Right-to-Work law” that would instantly make every state a right-to-work state and make the U.S. a right-to-work country?

The North Andover School Committee chair wrote in support of Barbara L’Italien because Representative Lyons simply did not provide timely updates on state funding.

First, I thought that David Gregory let Scott off the hook on “TheRealWarren” website. How could he just not say “Do you stand behind that website?” Do you think Ms. Warren is a “fake Indian?”

Second, how come Elizabeth can’t say the right things on the union issue? “I’ve been endorsed…” is all she said. How about a simple three step: The middle class is getting hammered; unions help the middle class; the current law about union elections is weighted in favor of corporations and we need the card check law. Card check is the dog whistle of the union movement. Or line up with the SEIU janitors – no one’s idea of union hacks. And finally, remember Scott Brown rushing down to DC to stop the appointment of a labor lawyer to the NLRB.

  10. Canvassing (1 Reply)

I’ve been canvassing unenrolled voters in North Andover, and have been pleasantly surprised. Especially by women. And North Andover has a very similar demographic. I think there was a slight win for Obama in 2008 and a 60-40 split in the Brown Coakley race.

Us Dems haven’t done well on the decade since 1990. (and yes, we are just as guilty of gerrymandering as you are, it is just that technology made it that much easier to gerrymander well.)

  12. other debate questions (0 Replies)

For all the praise of Jkeller for the debate, he was surprisingly light on a few key issues for Brown.

    1. Gay Marriage.
    2. Labor issues – remember Scotto dashing down there to stop Craig Becker’s appointment to the NLRB? [And personally, as a pre-6AM 93S commuter, I am starting to see the Elizabeth Warren stickers make it onto the bumpers of the pick-up trucks.
    3. Loyalty to the caucus versus loyalty to the state. Under what circumstance would Scotto leave the caucus and be an independent?

I consider David Torrisi a friend and the district is much the poorer without him.

I would add the AFL-CIO to the list of pple who agitated against David and I don’t really know the whole story, except they they rated him at 59% most recently, after rating him in the 80′s for many years.

  14. That's bs and you know it (0 Replies)

She’d never held a job for more than 8 months, according to her resume.

This was bloodsport for Paul Georges and revenge for some Michael Savage fans who took D ballots in the primary.

The Valley can have another Tea Party representative and the AFL CIO son’t even get its calls returned.

    Have a great day Chris.

  15. Awful. (1 Reply)

Diana certainly knocked on a lot of doors and that seems to have been the difference. 165 votes.

  16. Try supporting a LEGITIMATE CANDIDATE (1 Reply)

Do a little research and look into the background of the people you are endorsing and their chance to connect with Dem voters.

And think about the area that Torrisi represents. Tax Free and right to work New Hampshire is a five minute drive away. Many of his constituents regularly shop in NH. Marginal changes to the minimum wage or tax rate have an exaggerated effect on Merrimack Valley businesses and it is important to keep the area vibrant.

And does the AFL-CIO really want a Republican in that seat instead of a Democrat who is at 70% support?

  17. sorry Merrimack guy (1 Reply)

I have met Torrisi and I have not found that to be true.

Also don’t hear dems out screaming about voter ID, just R’s like you.

  18. Why, in your honest opinion, is she "an attractive candidate?" (2 Replies)

She’s certainly not campaigning on any issues other than voter ID.

And how does having a cousin as mayor count as a qualification?

  19. One-sided, perhaps (1 Reply)

but this looks like pure power politics from the AFL-CIO. Give us 100% of your votes or we’ll endorse your opponent; we’re not satisfied with you being with us most of the time.
