  1. And here I thought BMG was not concerned by "out of state" political stories. (3 Replies)

Unless of course they are negative concerning Republicans. Hey David, am I missing something?

Thank godness that guy has nothing to do with any races in MA.

  2. Funny, forceful... and 1 day late (69 million people won't see his BS response). (0 Replies)

In two weeks he’ll be able to face Romney again and I’m sure he’ll bring his A game. Hopefully he’ll be prepared instead of needing his staff to write his speech about what to say, how to spin the truth into lies…

Maybe he can agree with Romney about improving Dodd-Frank and correct his remarks about deductions companies get for sending jobs overseas…

  3. Will this dope-slapping by Romney matter? (1 Reply)

None of us know at this point. Maybe the press and the Dem pundits will rip Romney’s words apart and feed them back down his throat. Maybe Obama will pull a judo move and use the strong words/message from Romney against him and put him down. Or maybe the energy level of Republicans will surge for the next 5-6 weeks, donations will pour in, Romney will keep hammering Obama on our horrible economy, 23 million people unemployed with little to no hope in site, energy costs, inflation… and people may embrace Romney’s vision and he’ll win in November…

If Romney wins we may point back to this first debate and say this was the turning point and all the dismissive remarks by Obama supporters will be filed away with those who mistakenly predicted the housing market will never burst… OR… Romney loses and we may point back at it and say the relevance of Presidential debates continues to be almost zero and they have no effect whatsoever on the voters.

I don’t see Obama or his team panicking but I do bet there are some very serious discussions happening today about how to proceed. Lots to think about…

  4. Romney won by unanimous decision. (2 Replies)

Obama looked annoyed, distracted, uncomfortable and wished he was someplpace else. Romney was aggressive and confident. He dismissed a lot of common misconceptions of Mitt. I have to admit that I am loving watching the MSNBC people suffering over the performance of Obama.

I don’t now if you all can be objective (or whether I can) but I think Romney spanked Obama, at least tonight. You can blame the moderator but it was a great debate format with Obama and Romney being able to talk face to face without all the pundits “interpreting” their words.

On a more unbiased viewpoint, I have to say that I was very happy to hear two extremely intelligent, informed and well spoken candidates running for office. Contrast this to Brown and Warren sounded like two dopes on many questions.

  5. S-B is our only hope. (0 Replies)

Shame on the President for not embracing “his” commission’s findings and shame on our leaders for running away from a very balanced approach to solving our fiscal situation.

Let me quote Bill Clinton from last week on Face the Nation.

“If interest rates were the same today as they were when I was president, the payment on the debt, that is, what the taxpayers have to pay every year, the financial debt (payments) would go from $250 billion to $650 billion a year,” Clinton warned on CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday.

    and

Clinton has been trying for months to warn of what he sees as a danger. Last May he said as soon as the economy begins to grow “interest rates will go through the roof, the cost of financing the deficit will be staggering, and the private sector will be screaming for affordable credit.”

A part of me would love Republicans to agree to raise taxes on the 1% who already pay so much of our tax responsibility. It would be good to sit at the table and say “OK, we raised their taxes and the deficit is still Brobdingnag… now what?”

  6. Really? I was trying to show how non-partisan I was about this issue. (1 Reply)

I have a long record here of calling out “bad players” both in my party and in your party. You’ll recall I started the diary on Akin’s egregious comments and asked for him to step down. I’m sure you’ll recall my calls for Charlie Rangel to do the same. I say these things because the public’s approval rating for Congress (and our elected officials) is at an all time low because we have lost faith in out elected leaders… we don’t trust them! Every time there is a case of one of them getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar, it tarnishes “all” their reputations and we trust them a little less. And my sincere feelings along this line is our elected officials “need” public support and yes “trust” to get their jobs done and help us. An example would be we both want another stimulus bill to get Americans back to work, but we (the public) don’t trust our leaders to put together a plan that would actually work. I think Tierney needs to go because so many people don’t trust him anymore, they don’t believe his story regardless of how a judge decided (think OJ). As for the we don’t “know” for sure… I’m afraid people running for office are chastised by their opponent’s party with all sorts of scurrilous charges which we don’t “know”, but we ended up going with what information we do know and most people do not believe Tierney’s story regarding his wife, her brothers and the $$$$. And it isn’t only the public in Tierney’s district that loses faith in a case like this, it’s contagious. He should drop out.

So I’m sorry if my comments sounded partisan but “in this case” I was trying to be non-partisan.

  7. You think you would have learned a lesson from DiMasi... (2 Replies)

you should stop supporting people regardless of their party when they’re “bad”. Tierney is a disgrace and should reconsider his threats tot he Globe about libeling him. I hope the Democrats on the North Shore vote the person and not the party, just like I hope Republicans don’t vote for Akin. Bad is bad!

  8. Wanna take bets on this? (2 Replies)

But the elephant in the room is control of the US House of Representatives, which is now in play.

  9. Thanks for playing but I don't think it fits. (1 Reply)

First of all, this is a highly emotional charged issue for people because it involves their faith/religion and they believe they do have some skin in the game. Second, men do have skin in the game since they are Fathers of babies. I know that you said you’re not a young person but can’t you remember so many things/times in your life where people didn’t care about something unless they were invested in it or had something at stake.

    But thanks for replying.

  10. Of course. The only ones looking for Romney's tax records are the... (0 Replies)

opposition who want to divert attention from their own real failings.

You said it perfectly. Did you listen to the interview, just curious?

  11. I know we had many debates about the "scoring" of comments in the past. (1 Reply)

One of the things we agreed to before I believe was not giving bad marks (-) for opinions you disagreed with but concentrating more on the style and content. Are we doing that again or have we returned to giving a negative score if a BMG says something you don’t like. I was annoyed by the -2 score I had until I saw who gave them… no surprise.

  12. How do all of you EW supporters think she did on WTKK today? (2 Replies)

    podcast

I thought she came across not wanting to answer questions. Especially her ROmney-like I’m not hiding anything in my Harvard records but I won’t release them to the public non-answer. Jim kept coming back at her to release them and she just redirected and said it wasn’t an issue. Maybe you’ll think she did well but I think she did poorly overall (with a few good moments).

  13. Racism, of course. (1 Reply)

Governor Patrick is a racist! Go tell him Tom.

  14. I don't know when you "started out". (0 Replies)

But maybe you could go back to those days and see how much you paid for Fed Income taxes. I bet it wasn’t zero! I remember those days when couldn’t make ends meet, bill collectors chasing me down, thoughts of bankruptcy… they sucked. But if I go back I bet you lunch I paid some taxes which is why I may have cared a little more about elections and what they did with those taxes.

I’m good with progressive income taxes too!

  15. Right back at ya. (0 Replies)

Sorry you think the Governor and Senator Kaine are assholes. I do still remember the days which is why I still use coupons whenever I shop, eat everything off my plate and save shit in my house that I can use for something else.. some day. I don’t know you so I won’t judge you. However, I feel very happy for all the “work” I do for poor people vs the bullshit talking that I hear from so many other people. See you at the next food drive because you know I’ll fucking be there!

  16. Talk about unreasonable and "touchy" people. (1 Reply)

I’m sorry you find the Governor’s words and Senator Kaine’s remarks so offensive OR… are they still ok but you just disdain my words?

Either way, you’re so off base. If you think I don’t now what it’s like to be poor then you just don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

But my point was, and still is, nobody cares about anything unless they have some skin or responsibility in it. Nobody cares how they drink at an open bar since they don’t have to pay for it. They get a Corona, take a sip and put it down, then go get another Corona because… it’s free! If they’re paying for it, they drink those Buds to the last drop.

You can disagree with my feelings and that’s ok but I don’t think you’re part of the solution to encourage everyone in this country to care enough about it to fix it. And the funny thing about this subject is many of you know damn well it’s true. Imagine… Hey they’re thinking of raising the tax on cigarettes to $3.00 a pack… who cares, I don’t smoke! How about we raise income taxes, who cares, I don’t pay any income taxes. How about we raise Medicare fees? NFW! That’s my money you want to touch.

I don’t agree with Patrick on everything (although I have agreed with a lot of things he’s done for MA) and I think this issue he may be right on. Anyone who lives in this country and enjoys the services which our tax revenue provides for (defense, transportation…) should pay in to it. I really wouldn’t even care if they raised the minimum wage 10% and then asked for the workers to pay that 10% into taxes so it wouldn’t touch their actual buying power, at least they would care about where the Fed spends its money.

  17. That proves it! (0 Replies)

You should work for the DA’s office since proving guilt will be a snap with this kind of “proof”.

  18. Let me get this straight Mr Reid... (1 Reply)

You make a statement they I never worked a day in my life. I reply that I worked 40 years straight. I record comes out and shows I worked 40 years but took a 6 month sabbatical during the 40 years and you double down on your claim that I never worked a day in my life and the 6 month sabbatical is “proof”? Talk about la-la-land!
