Concert update -- buy a ticket! :-)

by: David

Mon Jul 28, 2008 at 12:58:07 PM EDT

(Bumped. Here, from my inbox, is the Obama campaign explaining why you should donate now rather than later: "Tomorrow is the financial reporting deadline for July.... Your hard work and generosity have gotten us this far, but the fact remains, our opponents still have a big fundraising advantage. They are very good at raking in huge donations, especially from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs. That's why we need to show the strength of our grassroots movement before tomorrow's deadline. Help prove that a campaign powered by people like you, giving only what they can afford, can go toe-to-toe with the Republican fundraising machine." - promoted by David)

We're making good progress on the National Anthem concert -- we're approaching 100 tickets sold and $5,000 $7,500 raised.  And we've even got one regular BMGer playing in the orchestra!  Many thanks to those of you who have bought tickets, who have said they would do so soon, and who have forwarded information about the concert on to their own email lists.

But we can do more!  I'd love to hit 100 tickets by the end of this month (which is three days one day away).  So ... if you know you're coming and just haven't gotten around to buying a ticket, now would be an excellent time to do so, and to remind your friends to do the same.

We're counting on BMG readers to be a major engine in spreading the word about this concert.  As stomv has explained, we should be able to sell this thing out if everyone here taps into their own networks.  Thanks, as always, for your support!

just back today from vacation (6.00 / 2)
purchased my 2 tix, and have e-mailed to 35 others.

Listening to Charlie Baker talk about fiscal responsibility is like getting lectured on abstinence from Paris Hilton - Tim Murray

I wonder... (0.00 / 0)
has there been posts on other blogs, both in-state (Lynne, Ryan, et al) and the US-centric ones like kos, FDL, C&L, atrios, MomTalkers, etc.?

No, but... (6.00 / 1)
I've been meaning too. (Thanks for the nudge, a link to which my husband sent me.)

Left in Lowell: cuz why read the Lowell Sun if you don't have to? ;)

wish i could join you! (0.00 / 0)
i won't make direct contributions to obama, but if i were in town i'd pay for the pleasure of enjoying the concert.  but on the evening of, i'll telegraph my best wishes to you all by rustling a few candy wrappers and clearing my throat during the most quiet, introspective moments of the performance. ;-D

as a public service (6.00 / 1)
i just looked at the program, and think you might get more tickets sold faster if you update the program descriptions to reflect the 21st century experience.  Here are some suggestions.

Works With Full Orchestra
Obama works well with all constituencies, including fully orchestrated lobbies.

Beethoven: "Egmont" Overture
The Egghead from Belmont Makes a Pass.

Bizet: Au fond du temple saint from "The Pearl Fishers"
Fish Pearls & Fondue

Handel: Lascia ch'io pianga from "Rinaldo"
Oh my.  Just provide a bit of abstract art and let the audience enjoy a good head scratch.

Mozart: Arias and trio from "Così fan tutte"
Fans are Tut-tuting Aria's gang, Go and See!

Bizet: Toréador song from "Carmen"
No interpretation needed, as this work has featured in Gilligan's Island.

Rossini: Ah, donate il caro..."
Ah, donate your cash, please...

Additional works are TBA, including an audience sing-along of Charlie on the MTA will be performed by the MBTA Chorale.

"including an audience sing-along of Charlie on the MTA will be performed by the MBTA Chorale."

I almost lost it there. LOL. Nicely done!!

I love the idea of a singalong (0.00 / 0)
even if this hack has negative musical talent.

for the record... (0.00 / 0)
I googled that term, staying far away from whatever the heck this thread is mumbling about.

I'm more worried that if I ever shake the hand of David or Charley that we'd both disappear in a blinding flash of heat and light.

Is the Obama campaign slow at cashing checks? (0.00 / 0)
I mailed one in two weeks ago, and it still has not been presented to my bank.

Any Arlington performers? Medford Performers? (6.00 / 1)
If the performers are listed by town, then that makes the performance "news" in that town, and postable to town lists.

Also, in the theater groups I have been in, press releases were tailered so that the performer from each town is mentioned in the press release sent to the local paper for that town.

Free publicity.

All ink is good ink.

David and Charley are both from Medford (0.00 / 0)
And they are performing.  And they are Medford bloggers who organized the concert.  That's the angle I used to show Medford-relevance in a posting to the Medfordmass list.

But it would be good to have the hometown information of other performers to tailor announcements for other lists.

I just posted a piece about the concert and a link to here and the concert web page.

See you all there!
