Obama delegate Sean Riley, co-chair of Boston's Generation Obama, chairman of the Board of the Directors of MassVOTE.
Spinach quiche, bacon, coffee cake, fresh fruit, coffee. Solid.
Martha Coakley: focused, sharp, totally on point. The most impressive Massachusetts politician I have seen here so far. On Clinton: "It is possible to be disappointed and think that it was time for a woman to be President and still work hard for Obama." So much for the idiotic "traditional media" theme of the moment about angry Clinton supporters unwilling to back Obama and a potentially devastating rift in the party. I have seen no evidence at all of such a phenomenon in the Massachusetts delegation, where one might expect it to be strong given Clinton's overwhelming primary victory. Disappointed, yes; but ready to work hard for Obama and victory in November. Frankly, I think this is a bullshit controversy created by the media encouraged by the GOP.
Joe Kennedy. Standing ovation from the delegation. Rambling, vaguely incoherent speech. "There's more torture in Guantanamo than there ever was in Casto's Cuba." WTF? And JFK's Bay of Pigs anti-Castro fiasco? Hello?
Al Franken. Wandering and a bit dull, surprisingly. Maybe someone told him he has to be dull because Minnesota voters will never vote for a comedian as a Senator. But he is a comedian. Best line, in response to a cell phone interruption: "I hope you are waiting for a kidney." Tough race against Norm Coleman, but important if we're going to get a solid Senate majority. Fundraiser coming up in Cambridge Tuesday 18 September at the Charles Hotel: $125 "Democratic Party activist" rate.
Mike Dukakis. Says ground game is critical for 2008 victory (apparently, the key to winning an election is getting more voters than one's opponent: who knew). Massachusetts volunteers campaigning in NH are a waste of time: wrong accent, wrong culture. (Stay at home and read BMG, I guess). Whatever. His record on winning elections isn't so great as I recall.
We made a little pitch for the blogosphere, thanked everyone for inviting us and including us in their delegation, urged them all to contribute to the site, and pimped the 9-12 fundraiser. I hope we didn't disgrace you all, esteemed and most excellent readers. |
