John Herbert, a regular contributor to Hernando Today in Hernando County, Florida, sums up Romney’s appeal to the Hate Party voters he will need if he is to capture the White House in four years. “Even though the state [Massachusetts] has garnered much ink by being pro-gay marriage, Romney has stated publicly that he opposes it,” Herbert writes in his column today. “He’s a pro-lifer, too,” he adds. “Romney actually began a stealth campaign for the 2008 presidential nomination long before last month’s election. He has had power breakfasts with several key Iowa Republicans. Iowans must be courted, early and often. The Iowa caucus is a key event, kicking off the primary season. Then came the Republican Convention in New York last summer. Romney spoke in one of the prime-time slots. That tells much about the muscle and respect he’s already won,” Herbert says.

Romney, a “pro-lifer”The same Romney who wants to bring back the death penalty in Mass. The repugnicans need another compassionate conservative to run in ’08 because our country can’t take another tax and spend, soft on terrorists, criminal coddling, family hating, cultural relitavist, etc. Democrat in the oval office. How is it that the neo-cons have gained control of the language of political discourse? Why can a conservative columnist so glibly mention “pro-lifer” in reference to prospective presidential candidate as a positive attribute when the majority of Americans would not want Roe v. Wade overturned? I really want to know!
